Have an after market 69 roadrunner 6 pack hood and would like to know what kind of paint and brand I should paint it with?
Thanks!

You should use PPG black Organisol, there is a trick to spraying it correctly though.

Check out the organisol thread here, some very good advice on spray technique!

You see this question asked al lot. Hasn't someone come up with something new with all of the base coat clear coat that would be much better than the original?

That paint was really a bad deal if you accidentally got car wax on it as it would look very chalky white and would stay on the black for a looong time.

I would think thre would be a flat black with a flat clear coat with some texture that would be much better but still give the original factory look.

Some of you paint guys want to chime in on this?

I read both of those threads completely but don't see anything regarding a new base coat/clear coat process like I asked about above.

I don't see a way to do it with a base-clear system unless a flattening agent is added to the clear. If you add unaltered clear coat over something that's supposed to be a matte finish it's going to look way too glossy guaranteed. I don't know of anybody who has tried this, but one could certainly get together with an expert painter or paint supplier and start playing around with it. I think I would prefer to have a single stage paint myself.

The PPG DCC 9355 is a single stage urethane and probably the most durable of the choices available. That is what will likely end up on my dart hood unless something better appears between now and then.

I used the stuff from paddock. Looks OEM. As far as wax getting on the paint, why not just take the hood off (lift off hood) to wax the car. That's what I do.

The biggest thing is not how flat it is. They make flating agents you add to base for single stage and Clear as needed to get the right gloss.
You add some do a spray ot if you dont like it add more till you get it how you like it.
The problem is
1) This paint looks like 220 wet or dry sand paper
2} It has a metal flake look to it as is seen in the pics above.
Even the Laqure paint that was avalible does not look like the orginal finish, due to this.
What all the paints tried do is give the slightly ruff 220 look and flat/semi flat look but do not have the metal flake look.
I am sure someone at a paint jobber could play and play with stuff to get it closer than the stuff now offered though
