I've seen too many coolant passages in old(er) vehicles full of sludge and funk and wasn't expecting much better for my Dakota, so imagine my surprise when I pulled the pump and found this:
CLEAN!!
Truck has about 165K on it. The pump wasn't leaking, but the bearing was going out. The Fan/pulley could be rocked quite a bit (not to mention the noise it was making
). It was pretty obvious the pump had been replaced once already, but I have no idea how many miles were on it. I installed a new Murray brand pump.
Hard to believe I've owned this thing a little over a year already. Yeah, it still has its little quirks, and will proably always need some work, but its been stone cold reliable and I enjoy driving it.
