Didn't watch the show. Listened to the NHRA audiocast all weekend while I was in the shop. Sounds like it was a great race. Good, close racing from the top down. The did pipe in the Fox feed when the Pros ran the semis and the finals, but they had the track announcers feed, who I thing were great, in between. Bob Frey and whoever the expert commentator was for Top Alcohol early rounds Sunday were great.
And I like Pro Stock. It's about as high up as "up" goes for what I care about; gasoline powered, naturally aspirated, pushrod V8s. What would be the ultimate class for those powerplants if Pro Stock went away, Comp? It's on life support. Super Stock? The whole world is not all about blowers, turbos and N2O. Pro Stock is a legacy class. It should always be a part of the show.
If the results don't match the theory, change the theory.

Most of the arguments about Pro-Stock, revolve around the "nothing like factory cars" argument. Well frankly, who gives a damn, or where is it written that Pro-Stock has to resemble factory cars?.........Pro-Stock came about, when the mods to Super Stockers went well past those rules and a new class was born. But this isn't the late 60s and nothing is remotely the same. Todays Super Stockers are light years ahead of a 70s Pro-Stock...............so where exactly is it some envision Pro-Stock being?
If you want factory bodies and factory motors.......that opens the whole "factor" can of worms, because there are diff size motors, some are supercharged, the cars don't weigh the same and all the aero isn't the same. We ALL know how the "factor" worked before in a heads-up class and many Mopar guys still feel slighted to this day, because they feel the HEMI was factored right out of pro-Stock and it likely was........So yeah, that sounds like a GREAT idea. Lets try that again. As is often the case, the fondly remembered "good old days" in reality were NOT all that good. It was a cluster then and would be now.

Wonder how ole Dale Aldo is liking the fact they never once mentioned the brands of the Pro Stockers in any of the coverage? All they mentioned was the team owners, and especially KB racing.

I give a damn and it's written in the name of the class...Pro-"STOCK"
It's not Pro-"Blob" or Pro-"Tech" or even Pro-"Cowlhalfwayupthewindshield"
They oughta have at least some stock features other than a couple of semi, somewhat close headlight buckets and four round tires.
Maybe at least go back to as produced at one time, bore-spacings and put the cams back where they were.
That sure would change the brand lineup.....you know, back to when Pro-Stock had a fan base.
And by the way Monte, it's an "engine" not a "motor"

I realize Ford had the advantage in that department.....but I don't like rule changes to take away advantages......work for the wins. with the exception of Bob Glidden, Fords didn't just show up and win in the past with the bore space advantage.
and just because a term is used frequently, doesn't make it the correct definition.
the simplified difference is a motor converts power, an engine creates power.

I do like super stock....especially the class with the hood scoops. I was an even bigger fan of Pro-Stock (with scoops) back when it wasn't Pro-IROC with every car essentially the same with the exception of a few tweaks here and there. Apparently I'm not alone in my opinion with the lack of Pro-Stock fans in the stands. ok, gotta go now and put a new starter-engine on my motor.

I'd like to see NHRA take the superchargers and turbos off of the ProMod cars and make those the big inch, nitrous door cars. Leave the superchargers to the funny cars. Then make ProStock cars conform more closely to factory configuration. Use power based on available factory engines. Use factory chassis and bodies as opposed to tube chassis and carbon fiber bodies. Basically make the rules similar to what they would have been in the late 80's. Would some manufacturers be more competitive than others? Yep. That's called racing. Trying to make all the cars equal defeats the purpose of having a race. At least in my opinion it would make Pro Mod and Pro Stock more interesting.

I agree, Pro-Stock is boring and I usually leave the stands when I am at a race or fast forward through most/all of it on TV. It has turned into NASCAR in a straight line. The same basic car with different stickers has killed the class to many fans.

I didn't read all the posts....let me first say...I WAS AT POMONA.....#2 I had dinner the the D7 director/Winternationals race director (Insert mustache here for those who know...LOL) Saturday night. We watched the broadcast as we relaxed at the dinner spot. He says "We have a LONG list of things to fix for TV"....yes...they do. But the REAL shocker is that FS1 ONLY Broadcasts the race. It's filmed...produced...edited...etc...by the NHRA. I did not realize that. He says NHRA put's it in the can for FS1 to beam out. My 17yo was with us....first thing he says..."Where are the R/T's and the Qual spots on the graphic?"..."And why is the graphic so darn small. Race director looks at him and says....Good question. It will get better.....newbie gitters... Was a mess to watch for me personally but hopefully it will pick up and my biggest b&^%$h was the et`s not being posted after every pass to see who won BUT, better than any ball sports for sure.......

I get the feeling that half the people here think we should go back to a flagman and 7" wide Casler slicks. That would make everything better.
And definitions do matter. Don't come into my shop and call a piece of tubing "pipe", unless you're using it as a slang term and really aren't that dumb. But really, we like calling an engine a "motor" to make the nerdy guys mad.
This is a tough crowd. Pomona sounded like a great event. They will get the TV show fixed.

If that is the case, how much more practice does NHRA require? If they haven't got it right by now, chances are they never will.
Just because you think it won't make it true. Horsepower is KING. To dispute this is stupid. C. Alston

You can watch all 3 manufacturers engines go head to head in FS/X,FS/XX,FS/A,FS/AA etc.

You just verified my point on the definition(I did say simplified) of a motor......power/driven from an outside source.
Frequent, incorrect use of a word still does change the definition.
I'll try to dumb it down a little more next time.
