planing the rebuild of my 340 alitle short on money so i will try to get by as cheap as possible with what i do
spec 340 with 8-8.5:1compresion have not ordered any pistons yet
lysholm screw supercharger should be able to move enough air for over 700hp
cam will probably be my old compcams XE solidroller 242/248@.050 and .570/.576 lift probably not the best bet for a cam but i may not have enough money to get a new one unless it will be a real bad choice for cam ?
heads are fully ported eddy heads
carb will probably be some kind of dominator since the blower has a single dominator carbflange.
what size and lenght headers would be recomended for this aplication?
not afraid of building my own, i have some TTI stepheaders now and i gues they are alitle small and i know they dont match the exhaustport very good as is..
i also have a hookerflange kit with short pipes on they are 1 3/4" may be enough?
any more sugestions?

Blower motors dont need a collector, they dont need
to draft in a charge. I would look at a 1 7/8" min
to 2" tube. If your going to run it with a collector
look at a 3 1/2". Length wont matter either on the
primaries.... make or buy something that fits

thanks
not neading to care to much about lenghts sure is a big advantage when trying to pack 1 7/8"- 2"primarys in a small abody, there will be collectors since this thing will be streetdriven some atleast to the track and home again

My blown 340 runs similar cam specs on 112 LCA(solid not a roller),home ported iron heads,7.5-1,2 750 Carters,2" headers,3"exh. 12PSI with a old worn GMC 6V-71 blower mounted on a prehestoric Wiend single 4 barrel manifold. 4.30 gear,loose converter,slicks 11.05@124 thru mufflers @ 3850 lbs. With a 9" converter and BFG drag radials 11.17@121. I honestly don't think you'll give up a ton with smaller headers. Years ago I ran a milder combo. 214@.050 /467" lift cam, 1 5/8" headers, 3.91 gear,stock 340 coverter, same wieght. It went 11.88@113.

what kind of car was it thinking if you may have any pics of those big headers, just interesting seing how others have solved the problem with spacelimitations?
i have not seen alot of pics at all of bigtube headers for abodys at all actualy..
i kind of like the challange alitle also doing something like this
i know tigwelding will be best but will it be ok to just migweld since it would save alot of hours of work?

DVW's car is a '76 Volare. It has A-body headers on it though. One tube passes through the inner fenderwell...

I think they are Headmans if I remember correctly.

still have not got around to complete anything, yea i know thats useless but sometimes things get in the way of building a car

any reason not to build a 4 into 2 into 1 header?
just figuring it may be easier to package?
thinking about 1 7/8" into 2 1/4" or 2½" and then 3½" collectors or is it a bad idea?

thanks

Sure that'll work.... you just need to get the gasses
out.... quicker the better
