My brother is big Ford nut and drag racer. He recently shared this video on FB of John Kaase testing what happens inside an intake manifold . It really makes you think....

A lot of fuel just hanging around doing nothing! I can see an advantage to port injection !!

I wonder how the fuel would react to a \_/ plenum shaped like most sheet metal intakes are.

I did the same thing at work but with a better
shape for the intake... the one I did didnt show
anywhere near the amount of puddling... I only
got 8 pulls out of it till it collapsed on the
decell.. I did another with injectors and put
smoke in with the air.. that was pretty cool..
the dyno operator had to ease out of the throttle
so it wouldnt collapse (so the vac didnt jump way
up all at once)
EDIT
This is what it looked like in the end(injected one)
after using different material

I wonder how much power you lose by sticking your finger in a port. Cool video thanks for sharing

Thank you...........that was my first thought and that doesn`t seem to represent a "typical" shaped intake.......

What are the details on that set up Mr P? Looks intriguing

sticking a finger in the port.....I would be afraid of something letting loose in the motor, and spitting it out the port into my finger. still a cool video!

That was on a 5.7 hemi... they had a limited
budget for the truck... this was what was referred
as DCAE(Daimler Chrysler Automotive Engineers) it
was a program that lined up 2 engineering teams to
each build a vehicle of the same type(each year it
was something different) and they were allowed a budget
to do what they wanted... some spent the money on tires
and other went elsewhere... they were allowed use from
the labs if they could get it.. my boss was big on the
program and let me have all the time I needed to help
them(as long as I got my work done).. I did a lot of extra
hours(freebie) to build headers and intake type stuff..
most of the time I built headers for both teams.. but I
always suggestions and never said what was best so they
would be equal ... they had 5 events they had to compete
in.. drag racing, braking, road racing, cost annalist and
design... this was basically to teach the new engineers
how a car was built... was a fun program for me being
that I worked in the Fuel & Exhaust lab and I was into
racing.. that manifold did well.. I forget any of the
numbers on those cars/trucks since I did that stuff for
15 years with the groups of engineers
EDIT
Each year I would take my car out to the track
(Milan Dragway) where they ran.. I got to show
off a bit... the first manifold they built(that
design) was built on a 3-D printer
