We've got a Q&A, A Race forum, a General, An A12 forum...... Currently, Q&A & Unlawfuls both field motor questions. Anybody else here think it would be a good idea to have an "Engines" specific type of forum??

I'm just throwing it out there as something I know I'd enjoy.

we pretty much already have one! the race section.

if I have a general question about my car or any other mechanical system, I go to the tech forum, lots of guys there who have restored more cars thatn I'll ever own, and can answer those types of questions.

if I have a motor question, I'll go to the Race section, we have LOTS of engine builders, and racers who build their own engines in the race section.

Never failed to get an engine question answered there.

In fact, lots of good smart guys in the race section who know a lot about setting up suspensions, axles, engines, custom modifications, etc.

I am, and always will be "pro-fewer sub-forums"

another site that I frequent, Dakota-Durango.com, has so many sub-forums, that your questions get very little exposure. sure it's nice to have a section with ALL motor questions in one spot, all suspension questions in another, etc. but if you look, you'll see threads that are 3 and 4 weeks old, only have 2, maybe 3 replies, and are 5 or 6 threads from the top.

For everyone who thinks creating a new sub-forum for whatever topic YOU think needs one...I offer the following list of why sub-forums get to be out of hand.

General Forums:
--New member introductions
--General Automotive Discussion
--Off Topic chatter
--Personals (mugshots, tatoos, piercings, myspace accounts, etc.)
--Photos & Video
--Truck of the Month
--Bad news forum (accidents, tickets, lost jobs, etc.)
--Racing forum
--Event Calander

General Parts Forums:
--General
--Air intake/Throttle bodies
--Audio/Security & Multimedia
--Computer controls
--Dress up items
--Engine Modifications
--Exterior Cosmetics
--Headers & Exhaust
--Interior
--Lights
--Off-Road equipment
--Paint & Body
--Power adders
--Suspension (lifted/lowered)
--Tonnau covers
--Traction control
--Transmissions
--Wheels/Brakes/Tires

Technical Forums
--FAQs, Tips, Tricks
--Troubleshooters Forum
--Maintenance Forums

Engine specific Forums
--2.5L/3.7L/3.9L
--5.2/5.9/6.7L
--4.7/4.7HO/4.7 Gen II engines
--5.7L hemi engines

Model specific Forums
--Gen I Dakotas
--Gen II Dakotas
--Gen III Dakotas
--Gen IV Dakotas
--Gen I Durangos
--Gen II Durangos
--Other Chrysler vehicles

Regional Forums
--1 (US divided into 7 Regions, and 1 for Canada)
--2
--3
--4
--5
--6
--7
--8

Swap meet
--Parts for sale
--Vehicles for sale
--Wanted
--Group Buys

14 additional forums listed for site sponsors to post ads, promotions, discounts, group buys, etc. and for people to ask questions about products they sell

There's so many forums there, that you could ask a question, and it would go for DAYS before even 1 person replies to it. There's sections in there that I never go into, because they don't pertain to me, but yet, I might have the answer that someone is looking for, I just didn't see their questions.

Plus, as you can tell, one question COULD end up in 3 or 4 different areas. let's say you have a problem with your 1998 5.2L dakota, it won't stay idling. do you post it in the computer section? the 5.2L engine section, the GEN III section? the General automotive section? the trouble shooting section? the Air intake section?

Are we sure we want MORE sub-forums?
