By the time you brace the housing and buy the stronger (and heavier) case, you're at the weight of a junkyard Dana and well past the money, and after all that it's still a less efficient ring and pinion.

I just don't get the logic of building a killer 8 3/4.

I've had a freind and my cousin live that same 8.75 he77..... One rolled the sprag and the trans blew through the floor, the other broke the sprag in 1/2 and pretty much junked the trans. An ounce of prevention can go a long ways.

....and come on Dom. LACR has been dead for seven years now. How many track passes have you had in this time? Wasn't your sig pict like 3-4 years ago? You have a street driven car that rarely hits that rear hard. Just as mines the polar opposite. My car sits in three places. The garage, the trailer, and the track. By the math I now have a little over 9 miles on my combo now laugh2 ......wow, that's pretty sad when you think about it. I will be making a 2 mile trek in it when "take your race car on a beer run Tuesday" pops up on Facebook! smile

Either way.... just hate seeing you go down a road already traveled.

Btw..... going to TnT at Fontana in feb?

Has it been that long? realcrazy Damn how time flies and my sig was in feb 2012 and have been to irwindale several times since then and a few passes at Fontana so I hardly race these days compared to years ago. So then it should live a LONG healthy life and have no plans on caging it and may sell it and find a chassis already done or whatever. Different strokes and I love the old 8 3/4`s and have seen em in some fast cars............

To be clear my HD 489 case is the yukon, I bought it before I knew of DR Diff from Mancini (complete with casting sand)

Thanks again Dr Diff for helping me find 489 gears a while back when they were hard to get.

Dom I hope to see you back out at the track having fun.

Apparently the the newer pumpkin is an "updated" Yukon version but way beefier in all of the right places and will be tested here soon. I will be at Irwindale as soon as I`m done installing and breaking in the gears so I`ll hit ya up and maybe a few of us can meet up for some racing and beer`s................

Fontana reeference..... you stage and you're definitely looking uphill. Whitedart was telling me that one time they were there and it started raining pretty hard.... and the water was flowing back toward the starting line. laugh2

I`ll keep ya posted and will now have less worries just bangin out 60`s and 330`s till it bites then let er rip, get the boot and drink beer`s. I know I can get a junk yard dana cos they`re all over here but the 8 3/4 has worked well for me probably due to the street/strip Hoosier QTP`s and less laps than most and that probably wont change so it should out live me hopefully..........

Well, I got the goods from Cass and just need to do some deburring on some sharp edges left from the casting and have it set up and help out so I can learn how to do em myself............Housing definately looks beefier but the 35 spline spool is a bit lighter so I`ll weigh it next to the 742 30 spline once I pull it out.......
