I just replaced my plugs, wires, coil, battery, and a new HEI distributor. The ballast resistor is still hooked up for now as i don't wanna run through the hassel of uninstalling all the wires, which I will eventually get to when its a little warmer. At anyrate, it ran fine a week or so ago. Now when i go to start it, it cranks and cranks and cranks and cranks but no ignition, it doesnt evenw want to. I pulled a plug out and put it next to some metal, and I'm getting spark. I checked to make sure the distributor was in proper, i have the initial timing to 0 right now.

So like i said, it cranks forever, and when i let off the key, it blows fuel up out of the carb in a mist, as if the cylinder pressure runs out through the carb. It doesn't backfire, or make any kind of ignition noise. Just cranks.

Your timing could be 180* out. Try pulling the distributor up enough to turn the rotor 180* and reinstall. First make sure you are getting fire to the coil when cranking from the key. There are two coil fire sources one for cranking and one for run.

If i was 180 off, wouldn't i be backfiring. Also, when i pull the plugs and test them, they have spark. So i know im getting spark when im cranking. I have the ballast resistor on and im using an HEI distributor with the blaster 3 coil. I took the power wire that runs from the resistor to old coil and put it on the new one, then ran posotive and neg. wire from distributor to coil. So my spark is there.
When i installed the distributor, i checked for TDC by lining the notch on the balancer to the 0 on the timing plate. Verified this was indeed TDC with a flash light and screwdriver looking through #1 cylinder spark plug hole. The rotor pointed to about 7 o'clock, then i sliped the new one in same way. Then placed wires in proper order. I dont get why I have no attempt at ignition here.

Back firing not necessarily. You still could be 180 out because the timing mark and piston comes up twice in a cycle.

If it backfires ONLY when you let go of key, you may have distrib in 180 out, AND-OR the wiring or ballast resistor are not right.

I'm confused, did it run for about a week after the new parts or ??????

I want my fair share

you need to ditch the ballast resistor! Just connect the wires together with a piece of wire with some terminals on it. The HEI probably powers itself off of the coil and therefore isn't getting enough voltage right now.
