Couple of questions about a 426 heee-my in an A-body, if anyone has experience:

1) Offset master cylinder: Will the driver's side valve cover clear with just the offset MC bracket or does one need the flexible brake lines to facilitate removal so the VC can be removed?

2) Pass side shock tower modification: Cut and sectioned, or a 20# sledge hammer ala the factory. Is that for VC removal or complete head removal ability?

3) Where is your alternator when using a motor plate or "Elephant Ears"?

First plan on lots of $#%#@$ing then when its all done a huge smile.

1) Depends on the valve cover you use but pretty much you need to put flex lines on the top to allow removal of master cylinder, mine has hard lines and I can wiggle my valve cover off but just barley and I have stock style chrome covers. My engine sits offset to tti's specks since I used their headers. Motor sits offset to passenger side, back and down. I also used motor mounts instead of motor plate much cleaner look and no plate to work around up front.

2) I would cut and section the shock tower makes things much easier and again depends on valve cover but again I can get mine off no problem and I did cut mine rather than beat it in with a hammer. It is for valve cover removal only although I have never tried to pull the head while in the car.

3) Most people mount to the top passenger side for alternator with motor plate. Mine is in the stock location to passenger side since it is in with motor mounts. If you pm me I can email you some pics and give some more advice as I don't know how to post pics hear my build thread is on A bodies, Hemi Cuda Just For fun.

Well first, IF I want to try this I plan on many @(@*&^%@$@ words! Your A-body thread sure is making me double check my sanity, but I'll have a 'flite vs. a stick for one thing.

My biggest concern is the headers. Race headers are out and TTI's seem pretty finicky. Since this wouldn't be a "race" car I am tempted to have a set of "shorty" headers fabbed up, mimicking the stock hemi exhaust manifolds. Kind of surprised no one does that already.

If you opt for an HDK or that style k-member then your options for headers open up a lot because you can use B body headers.

I would use flexible lines. You didn't say whether you had a solid or hydraulic cam. With a solid, it is a no-brainer. But the flex lines make any necessary under-valve cover maintenance a lot easier.

What do you want it to look like? Certainly, cut and trim looks better than bashing the thing in, if there is even enough room to just bash it. We had to move the top shock mount over nearly an inch in our Dart. It is best to test fit the engine and see what HAS to happen to get the monster in there.

Been there, done that, wouldn't do it again....And its even for sale...Its my backup car and runs 10.50 with the wheels up.

The inner shock tower was cut & sectioned and then re welded, not to remove heads, just to fit the *&^*%$^ engine in there....

Mine is more street , made as a tribute car and I did fab work all my life, but still did the xx$#+¥x. Had to massage more parts then I care to list as most stuff isn't available. It's a really fun car to drive and I put about 1500 miles a year on it, but most people don't appreciate the car as they don't know what it represents and I've been asked many many times if it's a real lo23 or not. Good luck on your project!

I'm in the process of a hemi swapped into a 71 dart,moved the master cylinder inside,i have no inner fenders and shock towers are moved as I'm using coil overs and have a aftermarket frontend,i brought hooker headers 5481,but on mock up with the hooker headers on the engine,#1 tube on the left side runs right with the block,so I'm having a problem with that,as it wont let me use external oil lines to the pan,not unless I reroute the tube,really don't want to go with a deep pan,also with the hookers after measuring they will set real low,i would go with tti,but will ask them if you can do external oil lines

On my 68 Dart, the heater blower motor had to go and I just used the Hemi/6bbl pan. Works fine with the Accusump.

Mine has TTI headers and the kit made by Al Bevac which consist of:

Right shock tower modification plates and brackets
K frame
motor mounts
hemi A body steering column


Mine has hard lines on the master cylinder.

Denny's stuff is very nice and makes the whole job much easier also allows for options on the header side of things. We did mine a little different by keeping all the stock stuff which required the trimming of the passenger inner fender but not having to move the shock tower. I still have torsion bars, Z-bar for stick with Lakewood bell housing and all stock suspension parts. Denny built my K-member with motor mounts for me and we used TTi's headers, it all fits very nice although I don't have a heater in my car.
Oh I also used the flaming river small steering box in stock location and a mini starter other than that no fuss no muss. I will say make pig tails for the starter because hooking it up after the motor is in is a major pain in the .....

So why doesnt Schumacher make abody k frame to hemi mounts? Is that undoable?
