anyone knows where this tick is coming from? I have a 2010 6.1 in my dart. It has that tick since i installed the engine 4 years ago. milage was approx 10 thousend when i bought it. swapped cam and valve springs in the last 2 years. not really better. is it coming from the lifters? Don't wanna waste Money, time, work if it is something super simple somewhere else. It really sounds like noisy fuel injectors, just a bit louder... but mine has a carb.
anybody had that too?

I have owned 7 vehicles with 5.7 Hemi engines, both cars and trucks. EVERY one of them has/had that tick! The first one was an 06 Charger and the most recent a 2013 Charger, there is an 09 Ram and a 2011 Ram as well as an 06 Ram in the mix so it appears to be consistent.

Yeah, they tick. I work in a Dodge dealership. So I know they tick. Look up the factory cam lift specs. This is with hydraulic lifters. It's amazing they don't tick more than they already do.

I replace quite a few broken exhaust studs for ticks in them, pull the whole manifold new gasket and copper coat it reinstall with all new grade 8 bolts and tq to spec.
I have heard a couple others with ticks internally that seem to just keep going. Had one where the VCT thingy was making noise, he had me swap the whole engine as the truck had almost 300,000 and the truck (2011) was imaculate, found a whole "low miles" engine for not much more than the dealer wanted for the VCT and chain and guides, gaskets...

X2 on the exhaust bolts. Did lots of them at the dealer and in my own shop now. I'd recommend sticking with the factory bolts. The washer made on it is cone shaped to allow expansion and contraction of the manifold. BTW, this is what breaks the bolts. Stick with the OE gasket and I wouldn't coat it. The material on the gaskets' head side is designed for aluminum and the manifold side is steal shim crush. Never seen a factory gasket leak until the bolt broke.
With all that said, if it did it since new, it's probably the lifters and/or injectors. The lifters all have a slight tick. The injectors are just loud. The 6.1 is probably the loudest because of the little covers from the coils that don't quite cover the injector. They also have none of the sound absorbing foam like the 5.7 engine covers. I take a new under manifold foam insulator and cut it to fit under the little covers and around the injectors. Speaking of the insulator, you said you were carb'd. Not sure if you removed the insulator, but if so, do you have room under the intake to put the factory foam insulator back in? This may not cure it 100%, but will make a noticeable difference.

The exhaust bolt ive replaced, 2 4.7's and 1 5.7 Hemi, were all the bolts with an extra stud and nut that ALSO held the heat shields on them. The heat shields have slotted holes in them for expansion. My "fix" is double nut those heat shield bolts while the first nut is just SNUG.
Mopar to the bone!!!

My 12' Challenger Classic has the very well known tick also. I can only ever hear it if I am in a drive thru window & then I can hear it reflect off the wall with the car window down.

My 05 has ticked since new, it's noticeably worse after an oil change. I've run Mobil 1 synthetic in it, tried both 5W20 and 5W30, no difference in noise.
My passenger side exhaust manifold heat shield has also rusted off, lol

I have noticed that any oil filter besides a Mopar makes the start up tick worse. I would think you guys are using Mopar filters?!

Mine isn't on startup, it's just noisy lifters at idle, mostly with a warm engine.

MOPAR filter here... after getting a quick lube change on the road with generic filter it had bad start up tick. Light tick idling warm seems to be the normal nature of the beast.

Nope, Wix filters here. A different filter isn't going to cause or cure a tick.

Nope, Wix filters here. A different filter isn't going to cause or cure a tick. On start up it will. After it's running it won't.

I seen plenty of fram filters cause tics in my life, especially when I worked at wal mart back in the day and that was what we put on, we would get all kinds of complaints about tics that started after oil changes and we would fix them by putting on a different brand... ANY BRAND seemed to fix it most of the time!
