There are a few different thickness housings. That's why some last longer then others. Or are you talking about the center section?

I went out and weighed my empty 742 case for ya - 30 lbs even. That was with caps, cap bolts, adjusters, two bearing races still installed, the drain plug and two pinion snubber bolts still in the housing.

Thankxxx man. Did some research today on nodular iron vs factory cast iron and the nodular seems way stronger and Dr. Diff agrees and for $300 bucks w/billet caps and adjusters, I can`t go wrong and don`t want a truck or ford rear under my car. Mine has lasted longer than most into the 9`s at 3200+ lbs w/30 spline axles so this along w/35 spline axles, a new spool and around 3000 lbs.(for now), I should be golden...........

Sounds like a good deal. Certainly more cost effective than an aluminum case and leaves more in the budget for better parts. Cass is the man.

Was looking at the Alum. case but can`t justify the cost and can damn near have a complete 3rd member for the cost of the alum. case alone plus I may sell the car anyhow...........

You're right, it is hard to justify the cost on them now. Not sure who their market is either, no one in their right mind would pay that much for just a case, even if it weighs XX amount less. I got mine when they first came out about 10-12 years ago? I think it was like $600.

How much does the one from Cass weigh?

I bought one of those housings from Cass last year. They're definitely beefier and a worthwhile upgrade for the price. I can't attest to how much abuse it can handle as I only have 2 passes on it.

All three of the stock Mopar 8 3/4 center section are cast steel, not cast grey iron runaway Put a steel billet cap on the drivers side and go have fun up twocents
