i need some help on picking the right cam for my build. the rig is a 89 ramcharger motor is a 77 360 all stock from what i can tell, runs good, i plan to run headers, duel exhaust, alum 4bbl intake. gears will be 373s or 410s the biggest tire i will run will be a 35s.. truck will be a 4spd manual.. truck will be used for wheeling/town driving.. i was looking at the XE268H or 268H cam an was told thats to much an would need custom pushrods, rocker arms ect, i was also lookin at the comp XE262 cam.. i want a little noticeable idle... any recommendations would be great.. im on a budget any help thanks guys an gals

Either would be fine.I see no reason for anything special for either cam.If running 3.73 go 262 if running 4.10 go 268h.

Four wheeling and around town driving both require a lot of bottom end torque, sacrificing maximum horsepower. What you are interested in is a nice fat curve from idle to torque peak. This means the cam should be pretty small. The Comp XE256 is as big as I'd go in the Comp line.

My #1 choice would be Lunati Voodoo 10200701. It's right in many ways. Not too much duration, split duration for your stock LA heads, tight(er) LSA for faster building torque off-idle, and the Voodoo cams have a very good reputation. Plus the valve lift is in the range where I don't believe you'll have valve stem seal interference. I'd highly recommend new springs, just the baseline Lunati spring, and you should be able to use stock rockers and most likely stock pushrods.

There are going to be posts saying have someone spec a custom cam. I would be willing to bet that their suggestions will fall within plus/minus three degrees from the 701 cam. The cam manufacturers have put some time into their shelf cams, those combinations didn't happen by accident.

R.
