I have a custom made deep stock pan running a milodon single line static pickup. I dumped 10 quarts of rotella in there to get it to full on the stick. To me that sounds like too much oil which will rob power no? Do you think i should run less oil and not go by the dipstick

Man, that is one big pan you have there....One of the benefits of a deep sump pan is that you can get the oil down away from the crankshaft and subsequently the dipstick, which would then read low.
This was a stock pan that you cut and extended?
I would think 7 or 8 quarts would be sufficient, but check it out. How high do you rev it? How far is the pick up off the bottom of the pan?

1qt oil per 1,000 RPM works for me kind of like the old 10 psi per 1,000 RPM rule of thumb. I ran the 451 stroker at the full line the first few years I raced it. I think that was with about 7+qts of oil? I later ran it with just 6 qts and picked up some power and ET. I ran the engine like that for about eight years with no oil problems. This was shifting at around 6,300 RPM.
