Hello All,
Is there a physical difference between the 11x2 1/2 and 11x3 inch plates? I know that the diameter is the same but wondering about the depth.

Also do they have part numbers stamped in them? I looked in my parts catalog and it calls out part number 2880646-7 for the 11x2 1/2.

Thanks

All 3 are different, due to the width of the brake shoe.
You are correct, in figuring it has to with the "depth" of the stamping of the plate itself.
Never have seen any numbers on plates, that i have pulled, cleaned up, sold.
You have to have an "eye" for seeing, knowing, what your looking at.

Would you happen to know the exact depth of each or at least the 2 1/2? I'm going to look at a pair this afternoon and before pulling off axle, it would be great knowing. Owner says rear end came out of a C body but would be great to have other way of verifying.

Thanks

Identifying them can be tricky sometimes...I always keep the old drums and backing plates together as units. Its a pain saving something that may be no good but at least the next person knows what to buy... twocents
If you have the correct drum I think that's all that you need to know...

I just measured my 10 inch plates using this method and it makes sense. Thanks for digging around to find this and post.

I will post back to this thread with some actual measurements if these are the correct ones. Maybe it'll help someone else.

Thanks

Are you looking for 11"x2.5" backing plates? If so send a PM.

I have a complete 11 x 2.5" brake setup from a '70E (plates, drums, cylinders, hardware). One drum is damaged though probably could be turned. The rest is in good shape (about 11 years from new on a 3 season car).
