OK..Just to see how this is going to be received, Phil has opened MATS up to most everyone and will now allow brand exers in Pro and super pro as well as several other classes, what is your thoughts and more importantly will you attend or race? Personally doesn't bother me and wouldn't mind being able to put a couple brand exers on the trailer.

IF I was a real racer, I`d prefer all brands instead of Mopar on Mopar stuff..............just makes sense.......I may go watch but not sure.

I have several freinds and customers that will not attend this year as they go for the car show, swap meet and the racing combined. They only race and show at the all Mopar events shruggy I'm kind of on the fence myself right now work

I knew about the Mopar vs the world class and all that has been going on and unfortunately have not been able to attend the last few years do to points races at my home track landing on the same weekend and Springfling that is there as well, was thinking of trying to make it this year. I made the 1st one as well as many others in fact I blew the tranny up on my RR and bought my Challenger at the 1st one and made it to the final a time or two along the way in Super Pro and the jackpot race so I was a bit shocked when I got on the website last week and saw the Musclecars at the Strip name.Going to still look into going but looks to be pretty much just another race now with a small car show thrown in.I do like the Quick 32 format though. work

At least locally around here it seems more like it's the show car crowd that piss and moan about other makes at an event.

Most of the Mopar racers seem to be happy with the chance to beat all the brand X and other brand cars. laugh2

Locally there's the same stuff being said about the event that Phil Painter is doing at Gateway this fall.
The show car crowd isn't happy about the event being all brands and not just Mopars.

They should be happy that there's any event getting put on that Mopars can attend. twocents

Kayse can't keep up at all now. lol

If I have to run against brand x cars I might as well go to my local dragstrip.

I understand Mr. Painter has to do it to make money, but what's the point of going to a Mopar race to race Chevys and Fords?

I plan on being there to race. Hopefully it will still be Mopar influenced enough to get some of the mopar specific vendors to show up.

I like racing with Phil, hopefully it will continue to be a fun event with a good payout. But it sounds like this will not be a must attend event for me like it has been in the past.

I personally dont like it but from the shop to the track is 5 miles, pretty hard not to show up...

I guess the big question is how many of brand x cars are going to show vs the number of mopars that are going to stay home...

We have a local event thats Mopar against the world..
2/3rd of the cars are X brand.. I havent seen a mopar
win in years... if I want to race brand X cars I'll
stay local and save fuel cost... I know why they are
doing it, its all money and thats fine... but I dont
have to drag my junk a few hundred miles to race the
same thing as local.... and in most cases less entry fee
and in a lot of cases has a better payout locally.. most
of these so called mopar events suck

I don't mind racing against other brands and, I might even prefer it. I've met quite a few GM & Ford guys who really dig our Mopars. Looking forward to a great time as always be it Dodge Ford Chevy Peugeot.....OK maybe not Peugeot laugh2

My son and I drove our street cars up from Phoenix last year, raced, ran around town, had a great time! I'm really struggling to wrap my arms around the change...not really feeling it. If my son wants to go, I will, but if it's up to me, I'll find other events to do. May save those funds for Hot Rod Drag Weekend instead.

I'll be going..... but I've asked a couple of times on FB if they were opening things up..... would it be "cars" only after all they tout it as "muscle cars". They way things look it will be "just another race" in a few years (sea of pipe racks). Entry vs payout has never been "stellar" at MaTS, but we as racers took it for what it was.... a show.

I feel bad for the guys that race 2-3 times a year at Mopar only races as it will soon be I thing of the past. I never see Monster Mopar needing this but the smaller ones in order to survive open the doors to others. So what's the big deal? Your Mopar Friends are still there and you can race, eat, have a few beers, and BS just like every other past year. If these races aren't supported they will go away. See you guys at the races.

Well I understand the why and also understand the crowd involved. This has to be the hardest crowd in all over motorsports to please, the Mopar crowd that is. Seem like all they want to do is complain, then spread the word. This has been IMO a largely self inflicted wound. Every year I hear about people complaining about parking, entry, weather, swap meet blah blah blah. Then spread the word about how this was bad or that stunk then viola, you have an event in trouble. I applaud the Painter family for sticking with it, unfortunately knowing the Mopar crowd as I do this will mark the beginning of the end for this event. They will now have yet another reason to not attend this event. I hope I am wrong and that all you Mopar guys out there show up in force and show the Painter family they do not need other makes in all the classes. However I feel the opposite will be the outcome..

I attended the event in 2014. It had a poor showing then and for the money spent, just was not a fun deal. My brother and I packed up and left very early Sunday morning. Now being a vs. the world thing we have decided not to attend this one either.
Hey MoparBilly.....what happened to that marathon running physique.

I hear what Al and others are saying.......WHO GIVES A CHIT who`s in the other lane it`s a RACE already........... whistling Like I said, I don`t bracket race, am too fast for my safety gear and wont slow my junk down so for ME it makes no sense but for YOU guys it makes total sense to try and smash the guy/girl in the other lane regardless.......
