Can a faulty pcv valve effect driveability and idle quality, or just one or the other? This is on a 2007 Dodge Dakota Quad Cab 4X4. The performance seems to be fine as far as driveability goes, but recently the idle has been a bit more rough than previously. I have replaced the plugs, which seemed to help somewhat. However, it still idles a bit rough.

My wife's 4.7 has a bit of an erratic idle. It was getting really bad and replacing the TPS corrected the situation, but the idle still isn't completely smooth. PCV valve didn't remedy it either. My dad's 4.7 in his Dakota ('02) has a slightly detectable change in idle too, and has since new, so I'm wondering if it's just normal for the vehicle.

Thanks for the post VT Dart. Maybe you are correct about it being something usual for this engine. But, it has almost stalled in the past few weeks, and it seems like the idle situation just came on sort of suddenly.

If it were a TPS problem, would it show a trouble code? That sounds like it may be the problem.

the ones that i have seen replacing the tps usually fixes it but you might try cleaning the throttle body also hope this helps. also have seen the pcv freezing up on these 4.7s lately not sure where you are from but changing it might not be a bad idea or at least cleaning it cause it does get a lot of moisture.

Good call. I also took off the throttle body and did a thorough cleaning when I replaced the TPS, just forgot to mention that.

Right now I am just trying to get the sensor off. I can't get the screws to break loose. Maybe if I run the engine up to operating temperature, it may help with those pesky screws? Cleaning the throttle body is a good idea, as well. However, here in Ohio it's only 20 degrees today. That's higher than it has been in at least a week!!!

Trouble on the TPS screws? Mine came right out, but maybe they're easier to get to on the Grand Cherokee than the Dakota. If it's anything like the GC, taking the throttle body off is a 10 minute job and probably worth the effort. Totally understand about the cold weather though, doesn't make working any fun.

Yea, the screws won't break loose. I am hoping it is due to the freezing temperatures. I have sprayed them with PB Blaster, and hopefully that will help. I don't want to break the heads off the screws, so I have to be a bit gingerly with them. I'm afraid that the cold temps will make the screws brittle and they may break. Ain't got room the the garage to put it, anyway. The project car (Duster) is spread all over in there. Heck, it ain't heated, anyway!

Well, I got one screw out, then the other (in the back, where it's not easily accessible) has began to round out. I gave up, for now. Any ideas on how to remove the offending screw? I tried to get a small vise grip on it, but not enough room. I need some assiatance here, please!
