I'm wanting to convert to electronic ignition using Pertronix 1384 ignitor kit. Instructions say "....only compatible with "resisted style" coil....8 cyl engines require a minimum of 1.5 ohms resistance....if your ignition coil has proper primary resistance remove or bypass all external resistors. Do not remove external resistors if coil primary resistance is lower than specified". With that in mind what do I need to do? What are the specs of my 2495531 external resistor coil?

Is their a reason for choosing only the Ignitor I system?, if a Pertronix II or III system is available for your application, they are better system with additional options, either way, spend the money on a NEW Pertronix Ignitor Flame Thrower coil for your application, they offer epoxy filled units in a stock appearance black finish, or chrome plated coils, choose the correct OHM and turn rating needed for the system you choose...take the ballast resistor out of the system for better reliability/performance

Can't use stock wires with a II or III. Still need to know the specs of my factory coil and if it will be ok with the Ignitor.

I'd be surprised if your points coil had less than 1.5 ohms. HF has VOM's for ten bucks or less & with a coupon you can likely get one for free or take your coil in to any shop (a radio shack would be a good prospect as they likely would not be so busy that they could take 2 minutes to do what Kunkel showed in his pic).

Here are some specs I found online for my coil.

I'm ok with the stock coil. What do I need to do with the external ballast resistor? How do I need to wire this thing up? Do I just hook the red wire to the + side of the coil and the black wire to the - side of the coil? In the instructions it talks about hooking the red wire to the ignition side of the ballast resistor. I only see one wire that goes from the ballast resistor to the coil. What do I need to do to hook it up where it works the best? Attached are the full instructions that talk about this.

Yes the red/black to the pos/neg pri terrminals respectively as you noted then if you are bypassing the ballast: connect the the brown and blue wire(s) at each end of the ballast together to each other then T from that connection & run that to the same coil positive primary terminal where the red wire from the P is already connected to. EDIT Do check that you are supposed to bypass the ballast when using the stock coil (with the P) as opposed to the P recommended coil (they want a diff one for each of their levels (I II or III)

I can bypass the ballast since the primary resistance of the coil is >1.5 ohms, but I may leave it in the circuit to keep it looking stock. Only thing is I don't know which side of the ballast is the ignition side that I connect the red wire to. Is it the blue brown wire on the lower or right side of it as it's installed or the single blue wire on the upper or left side?
