I thought you carb was spitting out fuel when the scoop was
sealed.. this was about 2 years ago.. maybe more.. then you
were cutting holes in it... something like that

Gotcha..........that was a combination of things and the relief holes helped along/w taller vent tubes w/holes drilled in em to stop the vacuum affect that was taking place.........

We had some absolutely bizarre AFR readings this last season, had us chasing our tail every race meeting. We figure it may be the carbs too close to the scoop. We had 2 1/2 to 2 3/4 inches clearance and a small 9 x 2.5 filter on each carb with filter top. See below.

'74 Challenger..9.46 @ 145.9 1/4, 6.001 @ 118 1/8 so far. 4023lb !!! # N/A, Marsh performance 655ci, Indy Maxx, T/R, Indy 600-13 X's, Street legal, pump gas, full interior, Cal-Tracs, mufflers, 3:73's and real 10.5 radials.
9.51 @ 142.4 1/4, 6.003 @ 114 1/8 with our old mule KB, 572-13, 580 wedge.

I use to do a lot of flow work on carbs and air
filters and assorted components for Chrysler.. I had
to use certain things to get the base line.. everyone
had to have the ideal entry on it(like a velocity stack)..
I put one on my carb in the scoop.. it does make a
difference to the air flow... on my scoop the ideal
entry top is at the bottom of the inlet opening.. it
has plenty of area to turn 90* and then smooth out the
air before it hits the carb... in my set up the scoop
is sealed... all in all I believe my carb top is 6"-7"
below the bottom of the scoop entrance... it surprises
me how some try to get the air to turn 90* into the
carb in less than a couple of inches.. then no area for
the air to smooth out.. just so they can use the factory
style hood scoop

Boy you guys would love our Camaro then. The "air cleaner" if you can call it that is resting on the bottom of the hood. Might be 1/2" from carb vent to hood smile
