Hello folks.
I am looking for some opinions on whether I should have my headers modified for a bigger collector.
I have the 1 7/8 TTI with 3" collector for W2 heads
From what I understand, the new version of these headers come with 3.5" collector.
So my question is, do you think it's worth it to modify the collector and destroy the coating?
How much performance am I leaving on the table by staying with the 3"?

The combo is as follows;
468 ci
Indy 245 cnc
Pump gas
Solid roller
1050 dominator

Car is 3000 lb (with me) abody
727
5200 stall
Dana 60- 3:91

Thanks in advance guys.

I don't think the ends justify the means. Is it a maximum effort combo? I don't think you'll see a large enough gain, especially if it's an NA build

What RPM do you turn... but I would think a 1 7/8 pri
and a 3" collector are small... if you want you can
PM me and I'll run your engine specs through my header
program for the proper headers

Thanks for the response.
SpareParts; Not really a max effort although I plan to keep tweaking as I go.
Now would be the time for me to do it (change collector) if it made sense.
But by the time I get someone to do it and have them recoated, it's not going to be pocket change....

Mr P, I will pm you some specs.
I am curious on this, probably no point in fooling with collectors if tube size is not ideal as well.
If that turns out to be the case, it makes the decision easier.

After you PM me I'll send you what I need.. as for what
you have now it might be worth selling them OR changing
the collector.. that would be your choice.. I use a 3.5"
collector on most anything(either big cubes or high rpm)

Easy to slip a schoenfeld 3 1/2" collector over the 3", cut iabout 38" behind the cloverleaf welds and use the slip on /weld up collector for one size larger primary pipe than the one you have, Easy to do, I've done it several times.

Thanks.
I wonder how much differnece just the collector will make.
I am interested to see what Mr Pbody's program says. If I need bigger header all around, probably won't bother modifying these, just run them for the season and make a change when the time is right.

I would want to see 2in/3.5 collector for sure on some thing that big.

I just sent him his numbers.. it calls for 2.027" to
2.152" dia and a collector dia of 3.686"to 3.936"with
a length of 16.1".... thats for a bigger engine than
yours... if you go bigger on dia it also changes the
pri lengths...remember that is a timed length based on
a dia.... all the specs I quoted are OD with a .062 wall
edit
for a 3 step headers your diameters are close enough but
you need to figure the lengths.. the 4" collector is close
enough also... without running numbers

Mines a nos motor so short is your friend. Just need to get heat out as fast as you can with no major restrictions. I was running 2 in with 3.5 collectors before.

Are these something you are building yourself? Or do you have someone lined up to build them?

Those look awesome. I'm sure I'll have to make my own headers but figured I'd ask about 1967dartgt's set. I really don't want to make a set for my car, lol.

The one thing you want to TRY for is having equal
length primaries... this s a timing thing for the
exhaust, so they will draw on the overlap at the
proper time(equal length)... but also.. the number
one thing is to get them to FIT in the car so you
do what you have to to make them fit... on a true
merge collector they have to be designed to fit the
engine and RPM.. they are NOT a one size fits all

Headers on nitrous motors are not important?

Charlie Buck implied they were more important on nitrous engines. Especially those that have limited camshaft core availability when exhaust event timing is very important.

I'm building a new set. Mike, let me know exactly what you need. I think I remember. Will have 6 feet of 4" pipe with X-pipe after collector.

Will guess 2"/2.125"/2.250" 6"/10"/12" on primary length.

Career best 8.02 @ 169 at 3050# and 10" tires small block power.

That was from Ron Rhoades who builds headers for a living and is the fastest sb nos car in x275 in the country. His thinking has gotten his 23° small block to go 7.08 in the quarter letting out at 1000-1100 feet because it's geared for the 1/8. I guess he doesn't know what he is talking about you know more. Lol

Oh yea, he (Ron) built the headers on the fastest bb nos car in the country.
