While I've got my car 1/2 apart for my 4spd project, I've decided to look into a long standing issue with my gas pedal. The darn pedal just seems to have a ton of play in it. Not up and down play, like it's supposed to have, but side to side. The thing just seems too sloppy! My FSM doesn't show a good picture /diagram of the pedal attachment, so I can't tell if some small parts are missing (springs and stuff). Either way, it looks overly complicated from the factory.

Does anybody else have a sloppy pedal? Any pictures of the back of a pedal where the plastic pedal attaches to the steel?

Thanks

Larry,

There is a spring to keep tension on the pedal. The pedal rod slides into 2 slots in the back of the pedal and the spring is sandwiched between the slots. One of the slots may be broken. Sorry, no pix.

THanks Mark.

That E-bay kit is great,....too bad my car is not a 67-68. My 69 Dart looks a little different than that kit shows. I don't even know what the black thing is in that kit.

Anybody else got some pictures? Even a kit for a 1969 A-body?

Which way is the tension supposed to be pushing the plastic pedal?

The spring on my car pushes the pedal down so the lower portion is being pushed toward the floor. The upper portion is being pushed away from the floor.

Thanks for the info. I'm sure I'm going to have to get creative a little here, cuz I don't like the slop right now.

Thanks guys....After cleaning the crud out, I found that one side has an allen head. So I tighten it up and the pedal is nice now. No more side to side slop. I didn't take it apart, so I don't know fully how it goes together, but I also don't care now. It's much much better now. It just looks like an overly complicated (lots of small parts)part to do a simple job.
