single line, dual line, swinging pick-up or static, which one do you use on your BB stroker? reason I ask is there are so many variations it hard to determine what is the right set-up or what is overkill for a 512 lo deck stroker that I don't plan on revving above 7000/7200, rpm also plan on using the Milodon Super Stock pan #31470

i use a single line static external pick up. i've done some research on this & found the following.
!/ stock 3/8 internal pickup is 10mm
2. stock 1/2 internal pickup is 12mm
3/ single static external pickup is 16mm
4/ depending on the brand, but some swinging pickups only have a cross sectional area of 14mm, so if you run double lines, you're restricted by the size of the swinging pickup which means the static has more flow.
sorry for the metric changeover but i live in a Metric country, work in a metric/imperial job, but play with imperial size hardware on my hobby.

When I researched it, I was told that a single line was good to 6500 RPM, after that a dual line setup was recommended.

my thinking is that a single external line is going to be better than any internal set-up.jmo

I run a dual line swinging pickup setup and a trap door oil pan. I've turned my old 440 to 7,000 rpm, never had an issue. I don't care if it's overkill, I know it works.

Same here been on the car sense 06 no problem so far.

I ran the mopar stock 3/8 pickup 1970/71 440 6 pak pickup for the OEM 1970/71 Street Hemi 440 6 pak 6 quart oil pan in my 518 C.I. low deck stroker motor. I had to keep the oil level at or above the add mark to race it in a 1/4 mile, if I let it get down a quart the oil pressure would drop some after I let off in the 1/4 mile If was less than a 1/2 quart down it was fine I shifted that motor at or above 7000 RPM in 1st and 2nd gear and crossed the finish line at or above 6500 RPM the 10.5x31x15W M/T slicks, it would cross the finish line at or above 7000 RPM with the 315x60x4 ET Street Radials
I ran real loose oil clearances(.0035+ on the rods and .004+ on the mains, I used the narrow full groove Federal Mogul truck main bearings(4094M) also I oiled the rockers full time by grooving the #4 cam journal to make sure the valve springs got plenty of oil to keep them cool due to the solid roller cam spring pressures, above 680 lbs opened and 300+ on the seats That motor saw a lot of slow street driving and a lot of laps at the local tracks, 1/8 mile and 1/4 miles. My main message is the that oiling system served me fine I've used Milidon external oiling system before and since then also but there not needed for the application your building in my opinion

i've heard the story that a single line is only good til 6500 rpm too but i run 7200 on my Indy maxx motor with just a single static pickup & accumulator & generally the bearings still look mint at freshen up time.
then again my oil system takes 12 quarts so there's no shortage of oil.

I run a dual line static pickup, tray with scrapper built in with a 12 qt pan. It's complete overkill and as is costs a bit of hp. My junk is street driven 99.9% of the time. I picked up the setup real cheap, oil is my friend to much is better than not enough.Dave

Single line is fine for you. The oil pan and pickup are important. For your pan, I think a swinging pickup is better if the pan trap doors don't get in the way, take a look.

what size bearing clearances are you planing on running? I run a duel line on my 512, but I have some loose bearing clearances.

We run dual line with remote oil filters on our cars. Either Indy or Milodon pump covers. You might consider a Charlie oil pan because they are lower profile. The Milodon 31470 oil pan hangs low and with some of the pit areas around here you have to be careful. I would also go with a 9 or 10 quart pan also. I like the swinging pickup. If you can find an accumulator (3 quart) might consider one of them also.

The late Jeff Kobylski, founder of Modern Cylinder Head, once said he used a single line system up to 9500 rpm. He was talking hemi, though.

I have a -16AN to a single line static. I don't like it. My oil pressure goes to zero after hitting the brakes after the finish line.

you need either a deeper pan or an Accumulator.

I run a Charlies pan, swinging pick-up, single line Indy pump. It only requires 7 qts in the pan to keep everything happy. 0w30 Royal Purple, .0027"-.0028" on the mains and rods, 65 psi @7100. Bearings look great 300 passes.

I have the Milodon pan as per the MOPAR bible.Twin line swinging pick up with 2 remote filters and an accumulator.

Milodon single external w/ static pickup on my hemi. Cross the stripe at 7400 rpm making over 1,000 hp.
Milodon 21815 oil pump w/ a factory cast iron oil pump cover that I ported. 440 source fab'd aluminum oil pan. I put a hole in the side of the pan and used Milodon's static pickup.
