The drivers side door on my 68 Charger will not latch closed. Everything worked fine, alignment is good, just out of the blue door would not latch. The rotor seems to be working properly: rotates only one direction unless door handle is pressed in. I can see the latch move up and down when I actuate the outside door button. It is doing the exact same thing the passenger side door latch is doing. I could detect no movement in the striker but I did adjust some to see if any difference and there was none. FSM is of little help. Whats wrong?

Lazy star wheel that needs to be synced up to the door latch. Not all the star wheel arms are the same length, turn the star wheel until the door shuts.

I rotated the start more than a couple of revolutions to attempt to align. Did not work

my guess is either the spring broke for the lever that catches the star wheel on the inside of the latch. or it somehow got stuck.

Where is this spring at? Behind the door panel? Any way to check without taking any thing apart?

I took the door panel off and inspected the latch mechanism. Spring is not broke and everything looks to be operating properly. Any other ideas?

Try hosing down the lock mechanism with brake cleaner to get the crud out, then re-lube everything and see how it works.

This one! I'm betting the latch mechanism is gummed up. Clean it up & re-lube it and it ill probably work. Gene

It does not latch tight. The door will close but it is loose. The latch mechanism is not gummed up. How do you adjust the latch further apart?

You don't adjust the latch, you have to move the door strike on the pillar.Loosen the three Phillips screws, move it up or down,in or out, whatever it takes.Don't move it a lot at one time, doesn't take much and it could take a while until you get it right.

Copy. Thanks. I'll play with it some more. Was moving the striker plate to its stops yesterday and everywhere in between with no luck
