I need to touch-up some of the undercoating on the underside of my Cuda. I need something in a spray can that is similar to the factory black color and texture.

Does anyone have any recommendations on what I could use to duplicate the factory look? What have you used for your cars?

Thanks!

I think Resto-Rick has what your looking for but a quart is the smallest amount sold...

I was hoping to be able to find something in a spray can so I wouldn't have to use my paint gun. The area I need to touch-up is so small...

Do you need a special type of gun to apply Resto-Rick's product, or can you use a regular HVLP gun?

I used this for some touch up with good results. It's tough and goes on well. It probably won't stand out too much if its just a small area.

I used a rubberized undercoating.....and pulsed the trigger, so it came out more with a textured look. from a foot away it is hard to tell its not factory.

Thanks guys. I'll probably buy the Transtar and also the 3M professional and test them both on some scrap metal before applying to my car. Pulsing the trigger is also a good idea. If I can apply it a little drier by having a light mist, with several coats, maybe I can duplicate the factory look.

I use the 3M product for time to time.
A few years back there was a 3 M undercoat I used to get with a Green label and that was the best thick match.

Some of the new {aerosol}formulas don't like being sprayed on too thick..You might get it built up to match the surrounding areas only to find it cracked while drying or shrank and needs another coat anyhow...Take your time and don't rush it if you go that route...

The old style undercoating had it's own spray gun that screwed on top of the container and splattered up everything including the floor..The discharge hole in that gun was almost as big as the air hose diameter itself...So you won't be running any thick undercoating through an HVLP paint gun no matter who's formula it is...

As stated cover everything including the floor it's going everywhere even if you use an aerosol can type product... I wear a disposable suit and old shoes.. there's no gracefull way to do it !!

I figured it was going to be a messy proposition. Thanks for the info and suggestions.

If you can't use a normal paint gun, how is everyone applying Resto Rick's formula? Does it need a "shutz" gun?

Yes, click on the above link QuickBpBp has posted {to Rick's site} and then click "details" for his undercoating...It makes reference to needing one of those guns...

I used the Shutz coating years ago & it still did not go on like the factory undercoating. The OE stuff was SUPER thick & very rough textured. Still not sure how I'm going to re-apply the heavy build stuff to the quarters inside the trunk of my AAR. I'll have to talk with Frank Badalson to get some advice from him before I try.

For small touch up areas only u can use 3m seam sealer in a quart can. Get a 1" wide acid brush and dip in in the seam sealer agressively and then dab it on the spot. Practice and you find it duplicates it extremely well. It will however be a different color so u will have to shade it to whatever color u want. Works great in wheelhouse areas.
