A while back, I saw a company making a backing plate for the door handle on 68-70 b-bodies. I can't find it again but I'm not sure a plate behind the handle, inside the skin, is helping unless it's welded to the skin. My door needs some help and I would like to hear you guys ideas.

I probably will make one and do that but I wondered if anyone had a better idea. I am guessing it's a problem area after 45 years on other cars.

I used those plates and they make a big improvement
in stiffness.

Also used their reinforcements for the door mirrors with good results.

Welding not necessary in my opinion, I used a non-hardening Permatex
between the door skin and the plates, easy-peasy.
