Hi guys, I have a 528 in a Barracuda on the street but it does get beat on most days it's driven, has only been down the track a few times and has run 10.60 @ 130. I have just fitted an Indy Tunnel ram with twin 950 cfm TRE carbs and now Im thinking I don't have enough pump, it is running 2x Carter competition pumps.

Brand:
Carter

Manufacturer's Part Number:
P4601HP

Part Type:
Fuel Pumps, Electric External

Product Line:
Carter Universal Rotary Vane Electric Fuel Pumps

Summit Racing Part Number:
CRT-P4601HP

Free Flow Rate:
100 gph

Maximum Pressure (psi):
9.5 to 16 psi

Inlet Size:
3/8 in. NPT

Is there enough fuel ? I guess flywheel HP is around 700.
There was a flow test you could do to see what HP it will support ?

Thanks

The best way to do a flow test close to the real world is, if you can, to remove float bowls with the fuel lines hook up and put all of them in a five gallon bucket , maybe two fuel bowls in two different buckets instead of all in one work where you can do several timed flow tests, have the bowls pointed level so the floats are hanging all the way down scope thumbs Have some one help you so you can watch the flow into the bucket, and make sure to measure the liquid results each time thumbs Be safe, don't get burnt tsk Barry Grant use to have a flow test results for different HP and ET drag cars on thier web site, I think one gallon U.S. in 20 seconds was good enough for a low nine second 3000 lb car confused I hope this helps thumbs

I think you could do better with ONE good pump. I'd call several manufacturers and see what they say. You are making enough MPH at 130 to go into the 10.20's (or so). MPH is Hp and ET is hook.

Most of the time I have found that a weak pump shows up in the 60 ft and incrementals more than at the stripe.

Just because you think it won't make it true. Horsepower is KING. To dispute this is stupid. C. Alston

It actually becomes easier to fill the bowls when you go to four needle and seats versus two on a single four setup, unless the power has gone up a rather large amount. Are the dual four carbs needle and seats the same size or bigger than the single carb? If so, the pressure at the needles can be a lot less and get the job done. Thumperdart and others have worked with lower pressures and bigger needles and seats, and probably will chime in here with some help on both feeding the carbs, and fuel aeration. If those pumps put out like the specs say, and you have decent flowing regulators and properly sized lines, you should be fine.

Not sure on those pumps but a flow test as stated and some 120 needle and seats w 5 1/2 psi max will help keep aeration to a minimum. I'd go to a 300 magnafuel if those cant keep up.

The entire fuel system needs to be match to the capabiltys you want it to have, fuel outlet out of the tank, fuel inlet Y and line size to each pump, fuel line size from the pumps to the fuel regulators and finally as already pointed out is the needles and seat sizing scope I had a 10 micron fuel filter mounted between my gas tank and the Magnafuel 275 pump fed with a single #10 AN line to the pump, that filter was to small and was choking the pump tskI ended up replacing that filter with a 100 micron and moved the 10 micron filter up forward feeding the fuel regulator thumbs Lots of potential gremlins out there in the fuel systems shruggy

700 hp needs about 350 lbs of gas per hour. 350 lbs of gas is roughly 60 gallons. So you need 60 gph at the fuel bowl and you have 2 pumps which are rated at 100 gph each.

Do what Cab suggests and measure what your actual fuel flow is. You should way more than you need unless you have a restriction of some sort in the sytem.

I dont know TRE carbs.. but if they are a Holley
carb you would be close with the 2 Carter pumps..
I ran 2 of those pumps on my tunnel ram.. with 2
750 holleys.. at that time I was about 620hp and
turning 8000 rpm.. I didnt have any issues... that
was with 7# of pressure... if the carbs are a AFB
style carb they like a lesser pressure, about 5 1/2#
and that would flow more than my set up

This engine. It has -10 rear exit from a sump in the stock tank, -10 Peterson filter, 10-8 Y piece, the 2 x Carter pumps, 8-10 Y, -10 line to the front, BG 4 port reg, 4x -6 line to the carbs. Not sure on the needle a seat size but will check that.
Currently on the fat side (88's square) but running OK and seems to have picked up some power, it spins like it don't have any rubber on the rims in top. I will be taking it to the dyno soon just to get air/fuel right

Thank you for the help guys smile
