I have a few extra dollers to spend on the B body and have decided to eithter buy Caltracs or lighter the front end with Prostar wheels (lighten by 32 lbs.)This is a 90% street car with several trips to the track. Which would you buy?

both...look for deals

the cal-tracs work..you will feel it on the street as well as the track...on the street I leave mine loose or just snugged up so my eye balls stay in their sockets..

and wheels are just so trick...

caltracs. at least you can get some use out of them when you can practice at the lights when you are in pole position.

Which is more important to you: having the suspension work at the track, or prettying the thing up for the street?
OR
sleeper or showcar?

Now, 4 wheels would make sense for a mostly street car. Unless the thing makes a lot of power, or needs better hook, or you're chasing ET, The Caltrac $ could be spent on the things that you see or deal with on the car on a more frequent basis.
BTW, skinny ft wheels & tires are gonna kill cornering on the street...

Actually I want the suspension to work at the track & street. I don't know which will help the most Caltracs or losing 32 lbs.

OK, boiled down a bit further:
If it hooks fine now go with a set of wheels.
If it needs more hook, Caltracs.
32 lbs is easy to take out of the nose, by the way; 75 on a B-body's easy. You can mount the battery in the trunk without drilling any holes by using brackets, which not only will lighten the nose, but ballast the rear & improve bite.

If its a street car like my 63 then just get SS springs and use the money you save to get the wheels. I figured for me to get Caltracs and go with the mono spring it would cost over $600. dollars so I went with $200. dollar SS springs. I believe I may be giving up a tenth or two at the most not having Caltracs but it's not like I am trying to set a record. I just bought my SS springs last Oct and I still did not have the money for my Torque Thrust wheels I want up front yet. Ron

Cal-Tracs. Losing 32 pounds with wheels will do nothing for performance. It will look better though.

If that is the root question, Caltracs is the best answer of the two choices you gave.

Having said that, 12.2 in full trim is respectable and 383man's SS springs and nice rims response is an excellent compromise since you said you are more street than strip.

The only varible left is what style rims are you considering? Can we pick those for you too? PLEASE?
