The same oil I run in the motor I do prime my motors when spinning it on the starter with the spark plugs out before starting them also, oil the heck out of the valve springs also when assembling the motor I also make sure that all my roller cam motors oil the rocker shafts full time either with Indy heads or by putting a full circumference oiling groove around the number 4 cam journal the width of the oil hole in the cam and around .030 deep IHTHs

School me on why the soaking in mineral spirits please. Rollers are held with heavy grease when lifters are assembled. At least that's how it used to be. Soaking gets everything out. The rollers need to roll, oil lets them roll.

I soak mine in oil like the others suggest but my lobes get smeared with grease to help the lobes remain lubed prior to initial start up. I found some cam lube oil drips off prior to starting & by the time you set valve lash n set the timing there's not a lot of lube left. At least with the grease it doesn't fly off until the engine is up to running speed so the intial start has my lobes well covered.
