I want one of them so bad but I need to get rid of my Losi xxx-t's first since there our no tracks left. How is the build quality on the axial? And isn't it waterproof?

This is my first RC so I'm not the best person to ask but it seems good to me. Liks are plastic but several youtube videos on DIY upgrades, which will help. My biggest gripe is having to remove the body to turn it off. Second gripe would be, it comes nimh and lipo ready but in the lipo mode. I bought a 5000 lipo and charger. But, you have to use adapters to run the lipo. That seems kinda odd to me. Overall I love it. I can't drive worth a crap but that will change, I hope. I bought from RCSuperstore. They had it on sale for $350 with free shipping, a free 3000 nimh and charger, I upgraded to a 5000 lipo and charger and had $414 in everything. I'm happy and felt that I could get most back if I didn't like it.

That's not too bad on price at all but then again I'm use to buying racing chargers and batteries. Is there just a switch to switch battery modes?

Jumpers actually. Two sets, one selects nich/lipo the other changes the breaking. (I think) I'm very new to this. The only switch is on/off. I wish there were some way to dampen the throttle for beginners. I know the kit form is much more "adjustable" but I figured RTR was my best be as it can still be tweeked. You can lengthen the links and drive shafts to make it work with longer bodies, or shorten it. Pretty much, the sky is the limit. Or your bill fold.
