This does does not need to be restoration correct. However, can someone recommend a very good alternative rattle can spray paint to be used on 72-74 E-body steering column black in color.

TIA

If you want a gloss black, durable finish, black appliance epoxy is the best you'll find. It dries to a nice gloss finish, and is tough as nails. The only down sides are that it takes a long time to dry, and you need to be very careful about protecting everything you value from the overspray. Five bucks at Wal Mart, or pretty much any hardware/home improvement store.

You can also try SEM Trim Black. It is Satin Black with a very light texture. I have done some column collars with this stuff and they turned out very nice. I am planning on doing all of the interior metal in my RR with this paint.

What he said but in semi gloss. Not sure about Krylon but the SEM sprays in a fan like a spray gun.
