I've got a lot of the parts together now for my 451. figured it might be time to ask what you guys think of this combo, and how fast it may be? (I sorta want to keep up with my friends Nova, He runs 11.8's) So here's my plan:

1967 Satellite
71 400 block, .040 over & Decked .020 with main studs, & drilled for 1/2" oil pickup.
MP windage tray & 8 qt. pan. HV pump
63 413 crank, machined to fit w/ 3.75 stroke
KB823 forged pistons will sit .003 in the hole for a .043 quench (10.3:1 with .040 head gaskets & 84cc chambers)
H-beam rods
Stealth heads (otb)
Hughes HTL-4652 cam (.555@246* & .572@252* on 108cl)
Pro-Comp roller-tip rockers
1-3/4" headers; 3" exaust 18"s to 3" dumps (down to 2-1/2 out the back after the dumps)
Performer RPM manifold
Holley 750 Vacuum Sec. w/ proform main body kit (approx. 840 cfm)
Mallory breakerless ignition w/ pertronix flamethrower-2 coil
727 w/ 10" 3500 converter & transgo st. 2 kit
stock suspension with Summit shocks, South-side Lift bars, and 3.91's.
M/T drag radials - 255-60 15's

Okay, lay it on me........

If you had slicks, I would say 11.9-12.1 area. But that thing is going to twirl those drag radials (even if you may not think you feel them doing so) out of the hole. Especially ones that narrow. I would say 12.2, maybe 12.1, at about 117mph. Get some wrinkle wall slicks that are at least 10.5 inches wide, preferably 11.5 or more.

Should be a powerful motor for a lowdeck, and with that gearing and converter, should be well behaved around town. Have fun with it

BTW pics of engine and car?

Nice combo. IF it hooks I see an 11 in your future. I would bump the primary tube size to 1 7/8".

You might pick up a 10th or two with a single plane manifold as well.

I was afraid of this, I don't have the tires yet, they'll come last, So I could go with some slicks. As far as the headers, I would love to go with 1-7/8, but I already have these headers, and they're in good shape. When you're on a strict budget, some places you just have to draw the line. They can be added someday, but for now, I think I'm stuck with them.

try a 1/2 4 hole spacer and a Mechanical Holley. The vacuum is nice but I think you'd do better w/ a DP. Don't get the radials too hot and DO NOT go below 20-22lbs of aire pressure. You'll be knocking on the 11's.

if your on a tight budget try a hood scoop and seal it to the carb, shouldn't cost much more than the price of the scoop, aluminum base, and foam, can pick up as much as 2 to 3 tenths, lighten up the front end.

I've thought long & hard about a RO23 scoop on this car, sealed to the carb base, very similar to what you have (nicely done, by the way!). But at this time, I cant justify cutting my original hood. This car is an original big block car, garaged & well cared for its entire life, and I have every original pc. of it. I may someday get a fiberglass hood???. Heres the car:

i would not want to cut the hood, a aftermarket hood in the same color as the paint on the rocker would look nice also.

Id love to have that engine in my Demon. I bet about 475-500 reliable horsepower. Keep in mind for the future that the Hooker Competition headers with 1 7/8" primaries are around $200. You gonna have 383 badges on your car?

Quite obviously I LIKE the car. I have the same delima re cutting the hood. Stroker combos love duration so you could go a little bigger on the cam later. Pro-comp lifters may limit too much bigger. Carb a little bigger?. Yes. Even at altitude like I am, you can feel the difference once the combo is dialed in....think 850 plus. Also, with the Performer RPM, you will need a drop base aircleaner. Got a hunch you may have an issue hooking this up. MT 275/60/15 radials fit with the correct backspacing. Your gonna have fun with this though. Good starting point.

First I would like to say thats one sweet Mopar you have. Thats not a bad combo at all and when tuned in you should go easy 11's even 11.50's can be had with your combo fine tuned. The Performer RPM is a great intake for your combo as my son runs one on his 400 Dart and it did not go as fast with a single plane. I run the Holley Street Dominator which is a nice single plane that I like alot. I would have liked to try the RPM but I dont know if it would clear my hood so I went with the SD as it is lower and works about as good. I myself like the Holley DP carbs best but you can make the one you have run good also. I run 4.30's with a 29" tire and I like the 28's with 4.10's and 3.91's. Honestly your combo looks stronger then my 906 headed 440 on paper and I have pulled 11.50's at 3700 lbs on 92 pump and 10.0 comp. Oh and I also run 1-3/4 headers as I had a brand new set and I used them as I am in the same boat as you when it comes to cash. I think your car would love a set of 27 or 28" Hoosier QTP tires like my son and I run as they hook great. Good luck with that nice combo in that sweet yellow Mopar. Keep us posted on the progress. Ron

And I completly understand about your hood as I have a Max Wedge scoop but I dont want to cut my hood either. I am looking to find another hood for my scoop. Ron

Wow guys, thanks for all the nice comments on the car. I was hoping Ron would chime in on this, as I know he knows how to go fast on a budget. A lot of the parts I already have on the 383 that's in it now. (The RPM manifold, the headers, the Carb - minus mainbody kit), and yes it will still wear the 383 badging. (Cruise softly and carry a big block!)

Sounds like the common thread here is that drag radials wont hold it down , that's not necissarily bad news to me .

I think your combo sounds alot like alot of other 11 second 440s, when it really comes down to it its alot like Rons sons car except youve got more cubes. I think its an 11 second combo for sure if you can get enough bite.

WOW that car looks PRETTY in yellow. Ive got to say im surprised I didnt think yellow would look good on it. Mine is gold and I didnt care for it at first, its worn on me though.

Get him to race you on street tires if he runs 11.80s on slicks.

Ive got a spare hood to cut up when I get the 440 into my car. Its already been drilled for pins by a previous owner so I wont feel bad. The RO23 scoops just look sick on our cars too when the car is sitting up just right so that the top of the scoop is level with the ground.

Any more pics of the car?

I had a computer meltdown a few months ago and lost a lot of pictures (aarrrggghhh). So I don't have many pics of the car.... need to take more. When I bought this car a few years back, I wasn't crazy about the color, but the car was in such good shape, and was a 383 car, so I grabbed it. As the years have moved along, the yellow has grown on me, and it definately gives it a sleeper vibe! The current 130,000 mile stock bottom end (low compression 2-bbl motor) has pushed it to 14.00 @ 99mph. Hows that for not quite making my goal of 13's & 100 mph. (LOL). Thanks again, I haven't had anyone say they think theres any real problems with the combo. I've thought this through for quite a while, can't wait to get it going! Heres a few more pics.

underhood look. this was a greaseball 2-bbl 383 when I got it. This motor has never been out of the car.
