I have a few technical questions about the interior of my newly acquired 69 RR (R4 Red with White Vinyl Top) and Pewter Interior. Aside from the interior, the car is pretty much unmodified from the day it rolled off the floor (Original paint, etc). The previous owner had the car for 30 years and changed out the ugly interior "as he put it" switching it from Pewter to Black.

I'd plan to switch it back but would have the following questions:

1.) Besides the upper door frames, what should be pewter ?
Seats only ?
Carpet, Dash Pad, Door Panels, etc.. ?

2.) Where can I find a 6-way adjustable seat frame ? I pulled the old carpet up and there appears to be 2 large reinforced steel plates (on each side) for the bucket seats to bolt up to. What are they used for ?

If I have to replace the floor pans, I assume I have to relocate these plates to the new pans or will they come on the new pans ?

Thanks in advance ~
Mike

M6S is the interior code, it has nothing to do with a 6-way seat. Most online decoders suck.

Thank You Very Much Barry

According to the document (and assuming I am reading it correctly), this interior color code is not on the approved list to go with an R4 exterior which my car has.

BTW.. I can see why it would not be recommended by Plymouth. Can you imagine a Bright red car with a White Vinyl Top and Silver Interior ? Doesn't sound very appealing. I'm trying hard to find a R4 RR with White Vinyl Top.

Is this normal ?

Thanks Again !

R4 was a mid-model year introduction & the book linked to above was printed well before it came out so R4 is not listed there.

See the pages at http://www.hamtramck-historical.com/images/PIBs/1969/pib_9_page1.jpg & http://www.hamtramck-historical.com/images/PIBs/1969/pib_9_page2.jpg

There's nothing abnormal about this combination. It was available. There's at least one more R4 M6S V1W out there.

Awesome color combination that stands alone, not the same old thing you see on many cars. You know, the common paint colors with black interiors. Hey, I own a few like that, not putting any rides down. Red/black, orange/black, limelight/black, and green/black. This car has personality with its colors. Two thumbs up.

All bucket seat 66-70 B-body cars have plates welded to the floor on the inside holes by the tunnel, both seats, it has nothing to do with a 6 way seat.

A 68-70 B-body 6 way seat car has no extra support plates compared to a bucket seat car.

Those added plates for a 6 way seat come on 70-71 E-bodys, because they use different mounting holes than a standard bucket seat.

So since only the driver's seat is a 6-way, would there still be plates on the passenger side ??

These plates serve two purposes, 1) reinforcement and 2) keep the seats level. I find it hard to believe the 6-way seat does not need the additional reinforcement !!

I installed original buckets in my bench seat car. I always wondered why they were somewhat lower on one side that the other ... until I bought a floor pan from a bucket seat car and noticed the plates!

I typed the truth, been into b-bodies for 30 years The fact that you find it hard to beleive does not change the way these cars were built. The seat uses the same hole weather a 6 way or standard bucket seat track.
The e-body needs extra support because they do not use the factory holes for the outside of the seat track. They drill new holes through the floor where there is no reinforcement, so they add the plates.

Believe it!

Yep. The b-bodies have two supports that come out of the inner rocker. These two supports pick up the mounting holes for the bench seat and outside tracks of bucket seats. The inside holes (nearest to tunnel) have reinforcement plates. The 6way seat track uses the same holes as standard bucket tracks. On e-bodies, there are the same rocker based supports, but when using a 6 way track, the studs do not line up with the holes. So you need the additional support brackets.

WELCOME TO THE M6S CLUB! You'll find yourself loving this interior color.
BTW, this is an original interior with the exception of the carpet and repaint of door frame. The re-pop interior in my opinion is more of a silver than pewter. I need a driver seat bottom and won't by a re-pop one just because it is so far off.

How did e-bodies creep into this discussion ???

Sorry to run away from the pewter interiors.

Original poster believes the bucket seat floor brackets mean a 6 way seat, they do not.

Got on the E's because the guy can't believe no extra 6 way seat brackets on b-bodies, so I told him that they are used, but only on the e-bodies.

This material was original NOS Mopar stuff from Legendary back in the early 90's. They must have bought out Chryslers inventory or something.
