I have a 73 dart swinger. I just swapped a 273 inplace of a slant six. I swapped, the k-frame, and spindles from the 73 to maintain the disc brakes.

The problem I am having is that the front sockets where the torsion bars slide into (on the lower control arm) do not move in unisen with the lower control arm.

I marked the socket, the torsion bar, and the lower control arm with a marker in a line. (as if lining up a distributor). WHen i dropped the car, it bottomed out entirely.(the adjustment bolts are tightened entirely) WHen i looked at the marks, the torsion bar and socket lined up, yet the socket no longer lined up with the arm. It was off quite a few degrees.

Did i break something, or is there a way to tighten the socket to the lower control arm.

You have an installation problem. You should have installed the torsion bars with the lower a arm down as far as you could get it by removing the upper bump stops and the adjuster bolts backed off all the way. If you look the bar isn't attached to the a arm so you lines won't show correctly. The bar is through the adjuster lever.

When i attached them, i had the tires down all the way. I did not however remove the bump stops. Ill do that now, I'm surprised they still bottomed out entirely.

Ill see what happens and get back to ya.
Thanks.

Also, may be dumb questions. But the upper ball joints don't need to be removed do they?

No need to remove the ball joints. Just make sure the adjuster lever is down all the way. It's the little arm in the a arm that the adjuster bolt pushs against.

If your adjuster bolts are all the way in and your car is bottomed out, it sounds like you're 60 degrees (or one "flat" on the torsion bar) off from where you need to be. When you look at it, it doesn't seem like it would make that much of a difference, but it does. On each side, pull the bar out of the "socket", rotate the "socket" down in relation to the bar, and re-insert the bar. You'll also have to back out the adjuster bolts on both sides quite a ways.

Im not sure I understand. How would I go about rotating the socket. Is there a way to losen it and spin it?

I thought they were fixed.

You have to slide the whole torsion bar back out of both "sockets". After taking out the stops loosen the adjusting bolts as far as you can then slide the torsion bar back in to the sockets. This should have given you enough adjustment to have the tosion bar twisted to the next flat. Then when you adjust the bolt you should get more movement because they are starting under a different load. Like reajusting a open end wrench to the next "side" of a hex nut.

Seperate the upper ball joint from the spindle, remove the bumpstop, loosen the strut bar.back off rhe t-bar bolt all the way,pry down on the lca,and put a pipe wrench on the t-bar socket and turn it down, install t-bar,reattach and tighten everything for maximum preload and adjustment.Be sure the bars are installed correctly.

No, the socket part turns independently of the lower control arm. Maybe yours are gunked up or stuck together. Try spraying some PB Blaster or something similar on it to loosen it. The cross-bar that the adjusting bolt goes thru is anchored against the lower control arm, and the top of the adjusting bolt fits into the end of the arm that sticks out of the socket. This allows you to raise or lower the suspension in relation to the torsion bar.

What often happens is when you back the adjusting bolt off the torsion bar end socket stays up as they stick. back bolts out completely the with a pry bar or pipe wrench on the end round part turn it till the leaver again touches the adjusting bolt. Now when you install the torsion bar you have full adjustment to load it up. Suspension must be hanging when doing this as well.

Good point, that must be his problem. With the upper bump stop off and the supension hanging I don't see any prob getting enough adjustment.
