Whats the diff between a 8-3/4 sure grip and a steel spool?

It depends on which spool maker and axle size The 35 spline spools weigh less than the 30 splines do but the 35 spline axles are heavier then the 30 spline axles are The lightest combination is the gun drilled and profile milled 35 spline axles and spool, none of the companys that I know of will gun drill the 30 spline axles

I just got done removing my 742 housing with clutch suregrip and scaled at 78.2lbs.My aluminum housing with a steel spool came in at 52.8lbs.I ck them both multi times and came up with an average.Savings of 25.4lbs Iam happy since i had most of the stuff to build the alum center sec.
