All,
Doing brakes on my sons (new) 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee.
On the front it has the brake calipers with the big wire clips on the outside - Akebono?
I've read bits about how they would cause warping on the rotors after some time.
I'm replacing everything - would it be wise (and possible) to change over to the ATE??
Or am I backwards on the whole darn thing???
Looking for Jeep experts - this is my first one.
Thanks in advance!!

Wally

I had a 2004 that I drove hard , it seemed like I was chasing pulsating fronts every 5000 miles, I put 80k on it and it drove me nuts .

Good luck.

running up my post count some more .

Clean mounting surfaces for the rotors, good quality rotors ( I like Centric brands premium line) and the correct brake lube ( not antiseize) in the right places. A torque wrench for the lug nuts.
After roughly 1000 brake jobs I've very seldom had any pulsation complaints regardless of vehicle. Good practices apply to all brakes.

Took your advice - did the fronts so far , will do the rears the same!
Should be good.
Thank you everyone!

Torquing the lug nuts like you would torque a cylinder head will go a long way to eliminate pulsing.

My local Discount Tire will "torque" the lug nuts with a torque limiter on an air gun. Zip! First nut torqued. Zip! Second nut torqued. I just let them do whatever and then go home and redo the torqueing.

Learned about this with a Taurus that would about jerk the steering wheel out of your hands on a long mountain downhill. Correct torqueing with new rotors helped a lot.

I use Performance Friction pads whenever they are available for the model I'm working on.
