Bottom 4 digit number is date code. Mine is 1049, one hundred fourth day of 1969 (April 14th). Got it from-

Usually your motor should have a built date around 2-3 month prior to the built date of your car

Depends. Depends on what you find, build date, and what you want and need fore example. I've found correct P/N's. build dates, ect., for my car. Sure, it might take some time to find what you need but the rewards are good.

So, I don't really agree with your statement that it's "meaningless"

Doesn't matter what the date , I buy any and all reasonably priced 116's and 077's I find.
They're getting scarce and someone will need it sometime down the road.
I think Stephan will agree. up

I mean meaningless relative to the build date of the car if the item isn't from that car ... oh, never mind !!!
