I've got a 93 diesel with an injector pump that is leaking. I'm assuming this means the pump is on its last leg. How difficult is this to remove and install a new one?

My pump died while I was on the road in Missouri. frown Luckily there was a rebuilder nearby and he told me that it is more economical to rebuild than buy one, plus you don't know what has been replaced (if anything) in the rebuilt unit. work He fixed mine for less than it would take to buy a rebuilt unit and have it installed. I couldn't do the work since I was on the road so I had to have a shop take it off and put it back on but I watched him do it and the real issue is the injector tubes. One had to be replaced because it was stuck and twisted when it was taken off. wave

I inspected my pump today while the truck was running and it is leaking at the very front of the pump body close to where it bolts onto the timing gear housing. It looks like it is leaking from a fitting but the pump still looks like it has to come off to have a hope of backing the fitting off and seeing if there is a washer that can be replaced.
I'm going to drive it to work tomorrow and then take it to a shop that's down the road from my office. I'm hoping they can at least take a minute to see it leaking and tell me what it will be to fix it. It's a good pump and I'd rather just fix it if it's possible.

You'll be fine having yours repaired.... I would MUCH rather have the same part from my engine repaired or rebuilt vs. replacing it with a rebuilt unit unless the part in question happens to be better than what I have on my motor....

My 92 was leaking pretty badly from the throttle shaft. Had to come apart to be fixed so I had it rebuilt by an outfit in Albuquerque called Central Motive. They rebuilt the pump and the injectors and also fixed the cold start issue I was having. This was in early 2007. Still runs perfect today.
