Any of you guys use a Hydraamat pickup in your corner carvers yet? There was a lot of hype when they first came out so I was wondering if anyone has one yet.

My guess is that the stiff price will scare many people away.

Carl-

Please inquire if there will be a hydramat for direct walbro attachment. That would make things more interesting for sure. Thanks!

Stiff?

You mean disturbing price.

I'm hoping there will be more players in the market, I'm pretty sure holley didn't invent this stuff. Someone else will have a similar product at SEMA or it will be downstairs somewhere at AAPEX....

Here is a question for those are more knowledgable on this subject. What would the advantage be of the hydromat over a pump like the Stealth 340 unit or making a sump with trap doors?

Simplicity of installation, if it performs as promoted, effectiveness, and lastly, ability to extract the tank nearly dry, IMO.

So with something like the hydromat, you don't need to get carried away with baffling or sumps etc? You can do just a wide open tank? I'm getting some schooling on GTAW [tig] welding and I have most of the equipment needed to make one. I'm going to mini tub my car which will run the springs against the existing tank so the plan is to make one narrower and deeper. It will have the pump mounted inside. If the hydromat is the ticket instead of the Stealth pump, Vaporworx etc I'll go that direction.

I like the idea of the Hydramat but it is more expensive than I wanted it to be lol.

I emailed Holley a few times about horsepower rating and they said none of the sizes are rated for HP but just to get the biggest one I could fit. Because of the vague answer I am just going to sump my tank and run a pair of Walboros behind it on bottom of the trunk floor.

That's the idea. The original application is ARCA circle track cars (700 hp on gasoline). The hydramat covers the entire floor of that fuel cell. The videos show that if even a corner of the hydramat is covered in fuel, then it's still delivering.

I just bought a tanks inc EFI tank ($500-$650 with everything). I'm running it with the walbro 460 lph e85 pump. I'll find out how it does at COTA in December. If it doesn't perform up to snuff, a small hydramat in the fuel tray would be perfect IMO. We'll see how it does before I try that, though. MUCH cheaper than the other options on the market, and well worth it even if I have to do a thing or two to get steady fuel pressure at 1/4 tank. I'll report back once I have more data.

The ultimate is still the vaporworx as far as I can tell. both in price ($2200) and application. Depending on your power level, a gen 5 camaro, gen 5 camaro ZL1, or 2010-2014 CTS-V pump would be ideal.

They are not hp rated, though it sounds like there is a limit. I found a guy running a small hydramat with two 460 lph pumps on a ~800 awhp evo, and the hydramat couldn't keep up. Course, that's a ridiculous amount of fuel. The guy theorized that the pumps were 'too much' for the hydramat material to retain surface tension that normally keeps the exposed areas of the hydramat from sucking air. Holley didn't have an answer for him at the time.

So the two data points:
ARCA - 12-873 Holley pump with 12-925 Hydramat - 160 gph - GTG
800+ awhp Evo - two Walbro F90000267 460 lph (each) with small hydramat - 200+ gph - NOT gtg

Here is the link from his experience. It's a dead link - maybe someone can find it on their new site?

He was using this walbro adapter:

For me, so far so good on the Aeromotive Phantom 340 system. The car was able to make the first start and run for 30 min on about 2 gallons of gas (and a totally empty fuel system), and I've cornered it pretty hard (not autox or road course though) with it showing below 1/4 tank and no hiccups from the EFI. Car has a full return system.

I think one possible positive with this is that the returned fuel is dumping directly into the foam/rubber bucket when you're low on fuel. You also adjust how close the pickup is to the bottom of the bucket (mine has minimum clearance).

As you can see I had to do some mods to the trunk floor (there is now a cover there), but there is zero issue with ground clearance as it's just as stock. I made some dents in the top of the tank to pass the fuel lines with adequate clearance. With the trunk mat down, that extra 3/4-1" isn't really even that noticeable. Can remove the pump without pulling the tank as well.

Thanks. The odd shape is just to stay within the flat sections of floor. it's 3/4x3/4 square tube. I'd probably go to 1x1 if I did it again for more clearance to the wire connections but this works just fine. The picture isn't with the tank fully tight but it fits well. The top piece is just some 16g sheet metal held down with drill screws. As always, more than one way to do something.

Has anyone else run the Phantom setup with some hard cornering or auto x yet? Like most, I'm looking for the best, least costly hopefully, setup. Don't want to get into a mega buck setup like the Vaporworx system.

You have simple paradox then, spend the money, or run a nearly full tank. There is no magic here. twocents

I had the chance to talk to the Holley rep at the show and got a very cool demo on the unit. Very impressive. Also the new Hot Rod magazine has an article towards the back of the issue with some more info. When I get a chance, I'll dig through the 2 milk crates worth of info I picked up and add some more information to this. One thing, yes its not cheap, but its less than spending big coin on a fabbed and heavily baffled tank. Pick your poison.
