Been a long time since I last did this-can you remove a harmonic balancer without a puller by whacking it with a piece of wood and a BFH or do you have to have a puller? Taking apart an engine that has been sitting outside a long time and don't have easy access to a puller. Won't be re-using the balancer. Thanks for any help.

Yep an elcheapo puller works real good. Just take out the bolt in holding the damper to the crankshaft and then take the washer off the bolt and re insert the bolt into the crankshaft . Use the head of the bolt as a backer for the tip of the puller to rid on. the damper will fit right over the head of the bolt without the washer on it. If you don't use the bolt for a backer the end of the puller will fit into the threads of the crank and really raise cain with the threads.

Clean it, if it's Dirty. Oil it, if it Squeaks. But: Don't fix it, if it Works!

Took the advice. Got a cheapo puller and it worked like a charm. Thanks.
