What is the recommended lube for a 69 A833? I tried a quick search but didn't find it.. I just dumped in Lucas 75/90 but haven't run it yet.

Some say ATF.I have used nothing but 80 90 gear oil since the 60s.My 65 thats well abused and the Express truck still have gear oil and no problems.Ma did recommend ATF in winter if shifts were hard.I drove mine for years year round in the 60s 70s and gear oil was fine.Rocky

I've found straight 90wt to be too thick so I run 80-90 or 85-90. I've never tried ATF.

ATF is far too thin .....90 wt is all I ever used for 47 years....if atf was fine...they'd put it in rearends also....your tranny works just as hard,if not harder because of shifts....wher/who said ATF ?? crazy...ATF...Automatic Transmission Fluid

Read it all the time back in the early 70's in service manuals.. Also recommended 140 wt for 18 spline 4 speeds.. WAY TOO thick, I tried it.....

If you've ever disassembled an 833 with high miles that ran only ATF you'd find the cluster gear pin will have a groove worn in it from the needle bearings due to the ATF.

I use 80w-90. I topped it off with GL-5 a few years ago and it hasn't dissolved yet.

Gl-4 for trannys and GL-5 for diffs. There is a difference and it matters way more than the weight. DO NOT use GL-5 in your 833.

Master, again and still

They have Sta-Lube 85W-90 GL4 at NAPA and also on Amazon.com. Has been working great for me. I asked Brewer's and they said they would recommend I use this.
