It looks like I do. 2007 Ram 1500 5.7 with 249,000 miles. It ran fine TO work but failed to start at the end of the workday. Squirting gas up the intake tract got it to start and run for a short time, just like spraying ether down the throat of a carbureted car.
Crappy thing is, the job is 113 miles from home. Towing companies wanted between $900 to $1150 to drag it back here. I find it amazing that it would cost that much. I ended up renting a U-haul truck and trailer and did it myself. Total cost with fuel was still around $400.
I took the truck to a BMW shop owned by a friend. He hit the gas tank with a mallet as I cranked the key, it started and ran long enough to unload it from the trailer and get into his shop. It would not restart after that.
How common are these failures? I know, 250 K is a lot and stuff is going to start breaking, I'm just curious.

Mine didn`t fail on my 06 since I only have about 80,000 miles but the complete top of the fuel pump sending unit was cracking into pieces. I found out when I decided to change it out since I had the tank out to replace a rusting brake line. Btw, you seem to have better luck then me lately. It seems a lot of things have gone bad recently on my truck with much less miles..

Sorry about your trouble.

Yes they go out quite often. Your lucky to get 250K miles out of yours, imo.
I have put on 2 in 250K miles on several of my trucks at work over the years.

I don''t know how handy you are but I would have put it in on the spot to avoid a 400 dollar tow bill and did that once in a parts store parking lot while I was out of town racing on my 7.4L GM truck I had for 13 years.

Like said the plastic is crap, especially mopar ones.

I keep one in stock at work, that's how often I have that problem.

Happened to my '01 back in June; it has about 150,000 miles on it. I ended up paying $75 for a tow roughly 8 miles to my house because I was concerned that I might run into trouble. In hindsight, I should have saved that money. I did the "lift the bed" method as opposed to dropping the tank, and it was rather easy. Not sure if it's the same with an '02, but I removed all the bolts (4 or 6...can't remember) and just loosened the 2 rearward most bolts. Lifted and supported the front of the bed, and that made the pump, harnesses, etc accessible. Made the job very easy...

Great points made here. the bed does come off easy. Six bolts and the taillight harnesses on each side. I do like the idea of just "tilting" the bed back too.

I probably would have spent the $400 to have someone local to where I was install a new pump. There are qualified mechanics everywhere. A few calls would have turned one of them up.

Running the trucks low on fuel will take out the pumps pretty fast, as will gas with a bunch of crap in it. Don't buy gas at any station where a fuel truck is dumping gas into their tanks, it mixes all the junk that has settled to the bottom of the tank up. If the tanker truck is still sitting at the station, go to a different one. It takes about a half hour for the junk to settle back to the bottom, after the truck quits dumping. Gene
