I have a 76 dart sport and trying to put a a body 8 3/4 in it. It appears that the spring perches are about 1 to 1 1/2" off. I looked in the tech articles and it says that the 8 3/4 for a bodies were about 1.8" wider than the 7 1/4. What did you guys do, loosen the spring mounting bolts and get the perches to line up or buy new perches and weld them on?

Thanks

Personally I would do it right and move the perches. not a big $$$ deal.

If the spring perches are too far apart you do not have an A-body rear. Most likely a B body. Measure it for overall width against the stock rear.

The dimensions on that chart are incorrect.

These are the correct specs:

sounds like a b-body maybe an E-body

if so you will need the right offset on the rims to fit in there also

If its the smallbolt pattern its an a-body, if not, sounds like a B body rear.

it was sold to me as an a body rear end with large bolt pattern axles. from the spring perches I think it might be a b body. Oh well its going to fit and I will just weld on new perches this weekend.
thanks for your help

sounds like a B or E you have FYI i pulled the 8 1/4 321 gears and sure grip from mu 73 dart sport 340 and stuck a A body 8 3/4 in and it fit perfect.
So if yours was realy an A it should fit.

I hope you didn't PAY for an a-body rear -- they're a bit steeper in price than B/E body ones due to their demand and lack of supply. In your case, not knowing the measurements of an a-body rear, I'd be ticked if I didn't get what I was paying for.

again..the B-body 8 3/4 will fit with moving the perches

but the rims will need to have some more back set to fit in the wheel wells and not rub the fenders lips

so ya gonna need some rims to go with it

I had one cut down to A-body specs and used the moser axles with green bearings

that made the whole rear a 1/2 wider..1/4 each side and used 4 1/2" backset on 7" rims in a 68 Dart

you will need to have more than 4 1/2" so measure carfuly
