I am thinking of putting a Pertronix module on my 1970 V code which has its original cast iron Prestolite dual point distributor.. Not interested in a real CDI setup as I want to keep everything stock looking as possible. I have read online reviews on the original Pertronix and the reviews were not favorable. Pertronix is now offering a PERTRONIX II and a PERTRONIX III. Has anyone had any success with any Pertronix on their dual point cast iron prestolite distributor? THANKS!

I'd always heard (on here) that the P had a good rep. I do have a P III but it ain't installed (going on a "single" point dist with new bushings/reamer in hand)

I have run the original pertronics without issue, but the units I have were from before they outsourced production to china.

I have read about people having issues but we never really get the entire story.

I have the original Pertronics for dual points , I'd love to get the 3 with the built in rev limiter but I don't think they make one for the prestolite.

running up my post count some more .

Never a issue with the early Pertronix work like a charm. In fact just eliminated the electronic wiring sticking with points or pertronix as I see fit in the cars

I had no idea that that had happened. EDIT Double R is there a possibility of modding a 3 to fit your dual point unit? a quick visual side by side would (likely) ans that Q pretty quick

I had ordered parts then a few years later ordered some more and the second set said made in china , I still have the original boxes and they said made in USA .

I may order the 3 and see if I can transfer it to the 1 mount.

I just checked mine & it is made in USA but I noticed there is too much play between the 2 rotating plates (I'll dial indicate it later) & the thing does look a bit cheezy overall (I was a bit surprised). I could take measurements/dimentions & a pic for you but I cannot figure out how to get my camera to load pics on this windows 7 computer (I gotta call my computer guy). the 3 is supposed to be a killer deal (with the matching coil), I guess I will find out

can't give you any feedback yet, but i did rebuild a 68 prestolite and put in the pertronix II. haven't installed it in the engine yet, and don't think i'll get to it for at least another month, (transmission issues holding me back at the moment), but i'm certainly interested to see what pops up on this thread.

i'll try to remember to come looking for this thread when i get mine in.

I've run the original Pertronix stuff in my Prestolite for years with no issue.

I've put a few original versions in Prestolite's over the years. Used to know the P/N by heart, I did have one after 3 or so years start acting up, just swapped in a new module and all was fine again. The only downside was having to put modern guts into my factory tach's to read correctly.
