Getting ready to reupholster some seats for my 71 RR. Originally a bench car, but using the 73 seats that came with it and a buddy seat.

My issue is, I know there is something "special" about the 71/72 foam that they didn't reproduce it.

So, how will my seat covers look on the 73/74 factory foam. I tore the seat bun down to the bare frame to see if the foam is even good enough to use, but since the foam was for a Charger, I'm curious if I'll get the right shape for a 71 seat cover.

Any thoughts/experiences?

Thanks
Chris

The 73-74 foam is'nt the same as the 71-72...I don't think you'll get away with that one..

Well, I have a set of 72's sitting back in storage for a long time, I guess maybe I'll have to drag them out and take a good look and possibly use them.

In what way are they different?

Pretty much everything in regards to the foam...Shape is different, listing{attaching}wires are incorrect to fasten the older upholstery...I went through this years ago...Here's a pic of a set I did for a 73 RR these seats are nothing like the 71-72s...I've had a few sets of custom upholstery made up when Legendary still did that service and I always needed to start with the correct cores... twocents

'71 b-body is separate spring & foam

for '72 e-body went to the one piece spring & foam, did '72 b-body do this also?

This is what I can tell you,71 seats you better have good foam. The 71 has something different in the frame itself. My 71 RR came with seats like the above pic,(original bench car)Everyone I asked either didn't know or said I needed 71 seats.I couldn't find 71 seats that where reasonably priced so I almost gave up.Found a guy that had several rr's said don't worry put 71 covers on my later seats HE WAS CORRECT fit perfect! My listings fit perfect, the only difference that you can tell the year is incorrect on my car is because the backrest button is in the plastic arm and not in metal as the later back is one piece.
