'74 dart.
One day the Trani is fine, next day; Reverse is totally gone. Neutral is OK until you put it down into Drive Then Neutral stays drive.
Fluid level is fine.
I thought if neutral stayed Drive then the cause might be the linkage is lose and shifting around, only problem with that idea is that you would think the Reverse position would be Neutral and the Park position would be reverse..nope.
I never heard of such a weird Trani failure.

piston in the valve body stuck

I had one stuck in low gear

would go foward in N,R,and in park it was loading the engine down like it was in a bind

then I kept trying to rev it up in park then it poped loose

pulled it back down in gear same thing stuck in low gear

when it poped loose the 2nd time it was with a bang and no more worky

time for an R&R and a new tranny

good luck with it

Driving forward in Neutral and binding up in Reverse is caused by a rear clutch that's not releasing. This is most often caused by a failed Belleville spring in the clutch which allows the piston to leave its bore and jam the clutch pack.

it went to the scraper

what makes noise when it shift to 2nd gear

funny sound as the band aplys?

I know its on its way out also

I think I will get one built with a manual vb to get away from the throttle linkage while I am at it

but..I can now R&R my tranny in my truck in about 2 hours now
