Hey guys My wife keeps poking me and saying she wants an "OLD" car, she likes the pre 1930 era cars. It must be mopar powered so I would like to get a mopar body, is there any one who builds a "KIT" chassis and body, I mean just the frame and body panels all else I will build and use components from fat man and others. A far second choice is to find an original car in poor condition. If it has to be a ford chassis/body then I will probably try to use plymouth fenders and grill. Any leads will be appreciated. thanks

you said "PRE 30's
is that what you mean cars befor 1930
like a 29 dodge or do you mean cars in the 30's and befor?

I think you will need to get her to check out some pics of old stuff and deiced what she likes and then go looking for that car.

there is a big difference between 20's style cars and late 30's style cars and well as deciding on a coupe or a sedan.

if you have a family and you want the kids to come along you will need to look at a sedan and not a coupe.

there are no kit mopars out there, redneck and coach and chassis use to make a 34 mopar coupe body but I believe that redneck has moved on to fords and is not interested in doing a mopar but i believe he still has the molds.very expensive......

and coach and chassis has sold the molds to PLYDO and the owner has passed away so I don't think they have ever made a car yet or ever will.

your best bet is to look for a steel mopar body that you like and go for one and build or modify the frame to your liking.

now picking a 33-34 ply or dodge coupe is more expensive than picking a sedan or a later 30's car as the 33-34 cars are more popular , sort a like E bodys.

my brother just paid 10K for a 34 ply body and frame that we will build for him.

lawfish has good luck finding later 30's mopars around his area for a decent price so the deals are still out there.

check out the links below and see if you can find what style car you guys like. Ron....

Thanks Ron, I ve always seen your rods on here and am very impressed. I mean pre 30's as in 31-ish and older, she likes the real square tall glass type of cars, both sedans and the coupes, I like most "rods" so I will be happy to accomodate her.
heres a roadster

I think this is the ticket: I can see her enjoying somthing like this

and this would be ok as well.

Not to get too personal, but how big are the 2 of you?
If you are over 5'10" or `220, you will want a bit more room than is common in the 20s cars. It can be done, just more work.
Another thing is that with the economy and even before, you can buy a done one cheaper than building it yourself.

Go to some rod events and agree on what works and what doesn't, and check prices of complete cars.

John has a good point there, the earlier cars are a little tighter inside as the 30's rolled on they got larger interiors. my buddy has a 29 dodge 4 dr and when we sit in the front our shoulder allmost touch

you might want to go to the NSRA nats south in knoxville and check out whats for sale and see what kind of car you like.

check out the Nats here:

and I agree with John, with the economy the way it is, stuff just aint selling or people aren't buying. so maybe you can find a deal on a done one. but most done cars have chevys in them.
I am selling my Squattie truck and I planed on it being a $20-25K for sale truck
I have dropped the price down to $14K and still no one is knocking down my door for it
hopefully things will change soon
I want to get back to work on my racetruck project. Ron...
