I have always been confused, and its not too hard to figure out.

I ve never been too sure of how to properly install a gasket when replacing a T-stat.

Does the gasket go down first, then the T-Stat then the t-stat housing...

OR

Does it not even really matter?

Stat goes into the recess in the housing attached to the upper hose then the gasket, this is then attached to the water pump/front cover housing. Bronze thermo sensor goes toward the engine.

it all depends on the intake and water outlet. Jusy check to make sure which one has the recess.
(sometimes they both have a recess)

Like mention before the thermostat goes into the recess then place the gasket down a bolt together.

i have seen people that put the gasket inbetween the recess and the thermostat and ton of gasket sealant all over the place becuse it leaked.
