My TQ rebuild is almost finished and I'm ready to adjust float height. I have new plastic floats to replaced the leaking original brass versions. The service manual shows a 1" height for the brass floats. Should I use that for the new set?

Thanks

Hmm Stumpy, no offense meant but, lets say one has a ship made of something heavy like IRON, lets also say that the same ship made out of hollow plastic. Would it take more of the same liquid to float the iron ship or the plastic one ??? Not sure myself but just asking ?? Again Dunno shruggy

That has absolutely nothing to do with carb floats. Stick to the subject. rolleyes

sounds like a logical Q to me. For the sake of uniformity that even tho they are of different material & diff material has a different bouyancy that they shaped both of em so that when you set em to 1" the resulting end result fuel level (the bottom line) is the same. I would call "the carburetor shop" in Eldon Missouri (Google it). he sells premium ($$$) kits & even mfrs rods/jets for his carb kits & he'd likely have no problem answering a quick Q regarding this

If it is 1" ,it is what it is regardless of what it's made from !

I have never seen a carb rebuild kit specify different height settings for different types of floats. I agree it shouldn`t make a difference whether it`s brass or plastic or Nitrophyl.

I see they say there is a difference between plastic and brass. As far as your boat example equal weight and volume would achieve the same floating results. Aircraft carriers and battleships manage to float and they aren't plastic.

Holley tech article was something I never read before.
I never knew plastic would be different. Learn something new every day.
