Hey everyone, as I near the completion of my build, I was thinking about adding a full manual valve body to my BB 727 for street/strip use. For the time being the 727 is a low mileage stock one.
What valve body would you recommend using? Also would you recommend engine braking?

Thanks!

I've had a bunch of different brands and types of manual valve body in 727 trannys, street and strip as well as race only. The best ones I've had are the Turbo Action reverse manul valve bodys, non low band apply thumbs They are measureably faster in the 1/4 mile than all the others, with and without low band apply work

I think for the past few decades everybody says Turbo Action.

Thats all I have ever used is the Turbo Action reverse manual valve bodies and its what I have in my 63. They have been around since the 60's as far as I know and I have never had a problem with a Turbo Action valve body that I have used. Ron

Tranzact of Indy sells very affordable units. I bought a reverse manual with low band apply because I felt I needed it for my particular application, and because I could use my stock pump with it. Give them a call

A & A is a good choice, too. Probably not a nickels worth of difference in any of the better vendors for a 727 valve body going in a street car. Look in the classifieds, they are there for sale on a regular basis. I bought a used one there last year. Worked good and saved me a lot of money.

If you decide to consider used, don't forget to look at For A Bodies Only, Big Block Dart, and at Racingjunk.

Go with a low band apply (engine braking).

What year is your low mileage trans? If it's a late 70's model it will have a low ratio kickdown band apply lever and the second gear shift will be barely firm at best.

Now is the time to check that because while it only takes a few minutes to change it, the trans needs to be out to do it.

Ya know I actually have a brand new Turbo Action manual valve body for a 727 but its a forward pattern and I think its low band apply. I put it in my buddies car and then removed it a few weeks later as he decided he wanted a reverse valve body instead. If you are interested in it PM me as I would sell it for a good price. Ron
