OK. I think I'm ready to bite the bullet and enter the 21st century. Was thinking of taking my new combo to the local chassis dyno. I'm interested in A/F ratios at idle and through the rpm range. My thoughts are that the only information that I won't receive from the wideband kit is HP and shift points. That being said, help me determine what kit to purchase.

My combo is from the stone age. 496 six pack (stock intake). The combo has headers. Will i need to weld a bung into the exhaust? How do i retrieve the information? Is the sensor connected to a laptop, or gauge.

I looked online, and it seems there are lots of options. There also seems to be a significant difference in quality and price. What are you using?

I run a Lm-1 kit by inovative. Has a screen read out and can down load to a computer if you record a pass. Have used it to get me in the ball park, then use the track to tell me where it needs to be.

I use the old LM-1 also.. but I dont have the rpm/logger
so I mount a camera that will see the tach and the LM-1
read out... works fine that way

just bought/installed a AEM gauge, simple to install and use. welded in the bung in the reducer and mounted the gauge eye sight level. it gets you headed in the right direction but not gospel. I don't know why I waited so long to get one cause you will see how slight changes in your tune makes a big difference.

I have a dual O2 sensor LM-2. I have also connected a TPS to my Quickfuel carb and Installed a GM map sensor. Both the TPS and map sensor are connected to the LM-2. The LM-2 can display on its screen or connect to laptop for custom display through log works software. The LM-2 will also log to SD memory card so you can review later. The logs include both O2 sensor output, engine rpm , TPS and map sensor output.

Good stuff guys. Thanks for your input. Thinking about the LM-2 after reading up on it last night. Looks like the price of one dyno session gets you the tool to get the info any time you want...as long as it can be attached through the bung. I really appreciate your help.

Why not just put a autometer gauge in it?

If you have a laptop, the LC2 (used to be LC1) is IMHO the best bang for the buck.

Data logs direct to laptop plus if you go EFI down the road you don't need to buy a wide band controller.

It will also run a gauge so you can install it permanently if you want.

I have the LC1 running the wideband for my ancient Holley 950 Commander EFI.

Kevin.

I use a Daytona Sensors WEGO IV and a GoPro to record everything while making a pass. I can see the AFR, the tach, shift light and when I shift, oil pressure, fuel pressure, water temp, trans temp...And listen to what the motor is doing the whole time.

Camera was loose. DOH!

I have and reccomend the LM 2. Having the rpm on the graph you can check afr/lambda readings at the top of the gear, the bottom etc.
You can also record water temp.

I like mine, used it the first time this season and told me a lot, only thing is I am going to weld the bung in this winter and put the clamp in the box to use on other peoples cars.

For those of you with the LM-2, how does it record RPMs, do you have a separate controller for that?

I have my LM-2 with analog cable connected directly to tach output off my MSD box .
This is then recorded to SD memory card in LM-2 along with AF readings and saved as a session.

Nice. How does it know when to start recording? Is there a button you push, or is it just constantly recording?

Also, can they be connected to other types of tach signals, like the coil. Would a mopar ECU work?

Yes there is s record button to start and stop recording.

I have mine on a window mount sitting just above radio. I record 2 AF sensors , RPM, TPS and a map sensor .

The Innovate LM-2 manual does say that you can get RPM input from Negative side of coil if not using a MSD type box.

I bought the Innovate LM1 kit with thier RPM option, the LM1 is no longer for sell or supportedwhiney I added thier LC1 kit later to mine to make it read and record both sides of the exhaust. I bought if for my pump gas Duster with a 518 C.I. 400 stroker motor with a low deck six pak on it, six paks rock up You will need to weld bungs in for the O2 sensors, as far as AFR on pump gas mine ran well with 14.25 to 15.3 AFR at idle and part throttle, I was shooting for 12.5 to 13.5 AFR at WOT, not sure I ever got it that lean with thee sixpak confused The car did run low tens, 10.28 ET at 127.+ MPH with 14.2 AFR at WOT shruggy I swapped the heads and intake and carb. to a set of Indy SR M.W. size heads and intake with a single 4500 1050 CFM Dominator carb. and it was right at 12.5 AFR, that made the car go 9.993 at 134.5 MPH shruggyIHTHS
