If you are going from 2 bbl to 4 bbl, you should definitely get a 4 bbl intake and NOT use an 2 bbl-to-4 bbl adapter. A first option to consider, just get your existing 2 bbl rebuilt. A good shop might do a great job on it and that may be the cheapest way to go. I have a Factory 2 bbl Holley on my '74 Dodge Pickup. It was rebuilt just before I bought the truck last November, and though I will be swapping up to a 4 bbl intake and carb fairly soon, I would have to say, I was very much surprised at how well that Holley 2 bbl performs, drivability, relative fuel economy, etc, (I just want more Power, hence the future swap). Another option might be a New higher performance aftermarket 2 bbl carburetor, like a Holley 2300 series, (500 CFM, $313 at Summit Racing), then add the Electric Choke Conversion for a bit more. Then you could just keep your existing factory 2 bbl intake. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/mll-bpc4931ct/overview/make/dodgeFinally, you could buy an aluminum 4 bbl performance intake manifold and 4 bbl carb. If it were mine, I would go with an Edelbrock Performer RPM Air Gap (if it would fit under the hood) and a Holley 600 or 650 Cfm, but there are many other good carburetor brands out there from which to consider. Thanks for first input. Rebuild is not a option for me, have nobody local in my country I would trust on rebuild and prefer to get new unit. Further, my problem is big play at the throttle shaft which is IMHO difficult to deal with. Also checking internet, most feedbacks for purchased rebuild unit online are negative. But on other hand, I had good luck with carburetor for 87 Caprice purchased from www.guaranteedcarburetors.com last year. For Holley, I had reference being more difficult to adjust, then Edelbrock. From the mentioned company Quick fuel I got advice to use their carburetor HR-680-VS. This is a 680 cfm 4bbl carb, with reasonable price 430USD. Any experience with this producer? Some more details about recommended carburetor: http://www.quickfueltechnology.com/carburetors-hr-series/hr-680-vs-hot-rod-series-carburetor.html

Yes, a very nice little bolt on carburetor. If you don't want to go that way I would recommend an Edelbrock Performer since they are VERY basic carburetors and low maintenance. For a stock 383 2 bbl engine you might consider a small one, a 500cfm would be just fine, good performance and economy, or a 600 of you want more power. Here's a good source for either. Summit . Also, I would definately get a 4 barrel intake, an edelbrock dual plane design. IMO Overall Edelbrock quality is just fine.

Old standby for a stock 383 is a Streetmaster intake and if you can find one, a 9636 Carter Competition Series 4 barrel carb.

If I had to buy a new carb for a stock 383, I would be looking at that holley street demon carb as well. It seems like it would make for a great street carb. For an otherwise stock 383, I wouldn't run the edelbrock performer RPM intake. Hot rod's 383 intake shootout showed the edelbrock DP4B and edelbrock Performer did a little better in the bottom end. A stock headed, stock cammed 383 is never going to benefit from the upper rpm port flow their test engine did. And the smaller runners will crisp up throttle response and driveability. http://www.hotrod.com/how-to/engine/hrdp-0712-mopar-intake-manifold-comparo/

383cui with original stock 2 barrel carburetor I´m searching for new carburetor and consider go for 4 barrel. An option might be the eddy 1406 600 CFM & has electric choke & get the strip kit for it. The one I had was flawless on a 318 DD after I richened the cruise step a bit & fuel psi must be kept low. The performer RPM intake. Another good idea would be as said one of the new carbs that has the adjustable metering systems especially if you are going to use am LM2 to get spot on metering

I've been using edelbrock carbs a lot more in the past few years. I had an engine I couldn't get quite right with a couple different holleys... went to an edelbrock and it ran perfect.

I think the quadrejet is the best street carb. Early '80's with electric choke.

Thanks everyone for valuable informations. I was busy with work and then family, thus late respond. My stock intake have a number 2843581 and its really good only for 2 barrel. This is my current setup, you can see a bit brown color on the intake. Its due the leaking gas, when I give it a shot direct to carburetor before the first start up. Any start the same day, it fire right up. I guess when the engine runs, the air pressure prevent leaking. Anyway, it seems these are my options: 1st - stay with 2 barell and keep using stock intake, costs circa 400USD Use for example http://www.summitracing.com/int/parts/hly-0-4412s/overview/ and change to electric choke. There is not much of options for 2 barrels. Stock original carburetor have circa 350cfm rating and agree around 500cfm is good choice. Easy change, not really any benefit gain. Or, I can spend some more bucks and go for 4 barrel. Does anyone have idea how much HP brings if change to 4 barell and the correct Edelbrock manifold, on otherwise stock engine? For the 2nd option, I look to spend circa 800-1000USD. Carburetor, probably go for Demon 1901. Intake - will try to search locally for used one to save on shipping, but Edelbrock performer looks well. Do I need some kit for Torquflite cable or throttle cable? What require change from 2 barell to 4 barrel? How about fuel inlet? Please check my setup on the picture above, and please give me a hint. General parts for either variant Carb. spacer - is it needed, how thick? Valley pan with heat crossover block off. I have recently removed the exhaust manifold heat control valve, was not working anymore and it leaks a lot. The channel up to carburetor might be stucked already, but I should use the new valley pan anyway, right? Thank you for help and comments.

Lot's of conflicting information. You can rebush your original carb yourself, if you feel comfortable doing so. http://www.throttleshaftrepair.com/that would be your cheapest option. These guys can get most of the rest of any parts you might need for your original carb. http://www.walkerproducts.com/catalogs/
